Russia's Aleksandr Ovechkin has been named this season's Most Valuable Player in the NHL – an award decided by professional hockey writers. The annual ceremony of North America's National Hockey League was held in Toronto.
However, this wasn't Ovechkin's sole award. The player, dubbed Aleksandr the Gr8, was also named as most outstanding player by the NHL Players' Association members.
Ovechkin has become the second Russian to get both the Heart Trophy and the Lester B. Pearson awards. Sergey Fedorov became the first in 1994.
Canadian Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames and another Russian, Evgeny Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins, were the other finalists.
