Breaking news
Four policemen in Kazan have been charged in connection with the shocking death of a detainee.
Fifty-two-year-old Sergey Nazarov died on Sunday after having allegedly been beaten and sodomized with a champagne bottle. The shocking story was revealed by doctors who arrived at the scene – too late to save the man.
As the investigation found out, the details surrounding the case were rather dubious. Nazarov was initially arrested on a false charge: young policemen suspected him of stealing a shop assistant’s cell phone. Nazarov caught investigators' attention since he had already served prison time.
Investigators suppose that it was Nazarov’s tattoos that outraged the policemen, LifeNews reports. A former convict, Nazarov had two star-shaped tattoos on his knees – in prison tradition, it means their wearer will never kneel before police.
All of the policemen involved are in their early 20s. One of them – the one who arrested Nazarov – is already under house arrest, while the fates of the others are yet to be decided. Their boss and his assistant have been fired.
A special hotline for victims of police violence has now been launched in Kazan, and is already getting calls.
A 20-year old girl from the same town told investigators that in January she was also beaten by police, who demanded that she confess to a robbery. A criminal case was launched into her claim.
