Vladimir Spivakov, the prominent Russian conductor and violinist and the winner of many prestigious classical music competitions, has turned 63.

At the age of 13 Vladimir Spivakov won the first prize of a prestigious music contest. He studied at the Moscow Conservatoire and quickly became an internationally renowned star in the world of classical music.

Spivakov is the principal conductor of two orchestras – The Virtuosos of Moscow and the National Philharmonic. He is also well known as an organiser of his own classical music festival. This year the event starts on September 25 at Moscow's House of Music.

“I am not a fan of grandiose festivals. Mine is very small and cosy. It is held once every two years. I invite those musicians and opera singers who I know personally; this year these are Khvorostovky, Matsuev, Ute Lemper and many other internationally renowned musicians. There will also be special guest appearances  – at the closing ceremony Grammy winning jazz musicians Randy Crawford and Joe Sample will appear,” said Vladimir Spivakov.
