Rhythm-n-blues and soul fans now have an occasion to be happy. Their holiday is near at hand: on September 11, B1 Maximum club welcomes American soul diva Macy Gray.
The outstanding singer had no musical education and her family was also far from a musical one, though she grew up on her father’s record collection: Sly Stone and James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle.
Macy mixes old school soul, hip hop, R&B, funk, and rock, definitely breaking the genre borders. But if you look out of the window somewhere in the middle of Los Angeles, then you’ll have no more questions about the origins of such a cocktail.
Macy Gray, famed for her distinctive raspy voice, rushed on the top of the musical Olympus about 10 years ago. The original combination of styles brought her immediate popularity with the very first album. After a year in the musical business, her hit “I try” won a Grammy for the best female vocal. In year 2000, her album “On How Life Is” (1999) went platinum.
To date Macy Gray has released 4 studio albums. Besides these, Macy has recorded tracks with Santana, Zucchero, Fatboy Slim, and the Black Eyed Peas. She also tried her hand at the film industry, starring in Training Day, and appearing as herself in Spider-Man and Scary Movie 3.
Russian fans will see Macy in Russia for the second time. At the last year’s performance, Macy managed to capture the public from the first chords. This year, apart from the all-time hits, Macy will present tracks from her latest album “The Gray Life”.
To hear Macy Gray’s stunning voice, come to B1 Maximum club in Moscow on September 11. An emotional splash, caressing and blowing up your eardrums is guaranteed.
