Roger Federer about to break all-time record

Published: 26 December, 2006, 08:15

Roger Federer, the world's number one tennis player, is looking ahead to another record-breaking year in 2007. By the 26th of February, he will have reached a remarkable milestone.

That date will see Roger Federer being at the top of the men's rankings for 160 consecutive weeks. Thus, Federer will break the previous all-time record of legendary Jimmy Connors.

The only players to beat Roger Federer in 2006 were Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

Nadal won the 2006 French open, beating Federer in the final. However, Federer had the revenge on Nadal on the grass of Wimbledon.

Andy Murray beat Federer at the Cincinnati Masters  in August, 2006. By that time, Roger Federer had not lost in straight sets for an amazing string of 194 matches.
