Russia has won two medals in the opening stages of the Biathlon World Cup in Finland. Tatiana Moiseeva took silver and Maksim Chudov came third.

Moiseeva was just 6.7 seconds behind the Germany's Martina Glagow in the women’s 15 kilometre biathlon.

Both were performing well on the shooting range, but it was Glagow's skiing that proved the difference over the full course.

Another German Simona Denkonger took bronze.

And in the men's 20 kilometer race Maksim Chudov was delighted with his bronze after missing just one target with his rifle.

“It was really hard, a first serious race. You can see for yourselves I could have done a bit better. As I have said earlier, I am only 85% fit. It is good it is just the first start. We will build up our form in the races to come,” promised Maksim Chudov.

A strong performance from the Russian squad overall as Sergey Rozhkov, Alexey Churin and Nikolay Kruglov all finished in the top ten.

Olympic champion France's Vincent Defrasne was the man to take the gold.
