Russian-born "dancer of the century" back in Moscow

Published: 27 February, 2007, 19:21

Vladimir Malakhov, who is called the “dancer of the century” by many European critics, has been in Moscow for a gala concert. He came to Russia to remind ballet lovers of the basics of the classical ballet school.

Born in Ukraine, Vladimir Malakhov began his dancing career at the age of four. Six years later he joined the Bolshoi Ballet School in Moscow. After graduating in 1986 he became the Moscow school's youngest principal dancer.

During 20 years of professional dancing he has achieved a lot. Five years ago Vladimir Malakhov became the artistic director and principal dancer of the ballet ensemble of Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin.

In Moscow Malakhov's performance was accompanied by members of the Classical Ballet Theatre. Malakhov promised to make his visits regular once the theatre gets its own stage.
