Russian cinema to celebrate centenary with Cannes show

The first ever Russian pavilion will open in the mecca of cinema on May 15. At this year’s Cannes Festival, Russian film-makers will celebrate 100 years of Russian cinema. The 50-square-metre pavilion with a terrace facing the sea will host business meeti
Among the guests expected to turn out for the opening party on May 16 are Quentin Tarantino and Salma Hayek.
On the same day a Golden Palm winning Soviet film, “The Cranes Are Flying” by director Mikhail Kalatozov will be shown to the Cannes public.
Russian film masters such as Sergey Bodrov and Aleksey German will hold workshops, revealing their professional secrets to visitors.
Although there will be no Russian films vying for the Golden Palm this year, three Russian film-makers will be featured in the festival's parallel programme.
