Russian Ice Hockey Superleague: Lokomotiv and CSKA battle back

Second games of the Russian Superleague play-off quarter-finals have been played with Lokomotiv (Yaroslavl) and CSKA (Moscow) claiming very important away victories against Avangard (Omsk) and Salavat (Ufa) respectively.
Lokomotiv (Yaroslavl) have battled back and thanks to three goals in the first period leveled the series at 1-1 with a 4-3 win.Other favorites from Ufa have thrown away their chance to make it 2-0 in the series against CSKA (Moscow) leading 1-0 till the third when they crumbled and let the Army men bag three quick goals.However, there were no other big surprises on Wednesday. Metallurg (Magnitogorsk) are one of the two teams to win both home games.They claimed their 2-1 victory against Sibir (Novosibirsk) thanks to Igor Korolev’s shot on the last minute.In the fourth game of the day reigning champions AK Bars (Kazan) increased their series lead over Khimik. After beating the Moscow Region side 3-1 in the first game the Kazan club destroyed their opponents 5-1 in the second.
Stolen icons returned to Russian ChurchMore than 140 icons have been returned to the Russian Orthodox Church after authorities found them being smuggled out of the country. Some of the icons date back to the 16th century and have been classified as priceless treasures. |
