Prokhorov was arrested in connection with an alleged prostitution ring and although he was later released without charge some of the wealthy crowd said it was the last straw in attempts by the French to expel Russians from the ski-resort. Courchevel has been a favorite playground of Russian millionaires. Year after year they have been descending upon the French resort of Courchevel to ski, party and splash out. However, after the scandal surrounding the detention of Mikhail Prohorov, some of the wealthy crowd have decided to boycott the resort, canceling their March holidays bookings.Yevgeny Primakov, the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has already condemned the Russian extravaganza at Courchevel.‘The international business community has taken the recent events in France to heart. There is no doubt that this does not promote a positive image of Russian business. No foreign businessmen would ever act like our nouveau-riches on the loose do,’ he stated. It is still doubtful that the Russian super rich will stop going to Courchevel. However, it would be a great loss to the resort if they found another place to party.
