Maria Sharapova sweeped Jelena Jankovic in Thursday's semifinal to get to her second straight Australian Open final. There she will face Ana Ivanovic from Serbia. In the men’s semi-final unseeded Jo Wilfried Tsonga made a sensation knocking out Rafael Nad
Jankovic was struggling with injury at the end, but Sharapova got the job done. The number five seeded comfortably went through after two sets 6-3 6-1.
“I think I've been able to execute things I planned to do. And I was able to do it consistently, not just for three or four games and then having a major letdown and then doing it again for a game or two. The most important thing – as you grow and learn – is being able to play your best at the highest level for a long period of time,” Sharapova said after the game.
Ana Ivanovic, meanwhile, knocked out Daniela Hantuchova, coming back from a six-love defeat in the opening set.
Ivanovic held her nerve where Hantuchova hadn't, and moved through as the Slovak put the return on the match-point into the net.
It will be Ana's second Grand Slam final – she was the French Open runner-up last year.
There's also an amazing result in the men’s event. Unseeded Jo Wilfried Tsonga became the first finalist after beating overwhelming favourite Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
Tsonga needed less than two hours to eliminate the second best player in the world – 6-2 6-3 6-2. After the match he didn’t believe he's done it.
The Frenchman played probably the match of his life, serving 17 aces, including one on the match-point.
