One of the most popular as well as refined radio stations in Russia, 'Silver Rain', marked its 12th birthday with friends, fans and show biz stars.

The eagerly awaited celebration also proved to be one of the biggest summer gatherings. Over 2,000 people came to celebrate, including the queen of disco, Gloria Gaynor.

The party brought together both those working at the radio station and its devoted listeners. And it seems the reason for the station’s success is its special, almost personal, relations with the audience.

“The station allows you to feel the rhythm, the heartbeat of the country and the city. I can hear people's pain, joy, tears, all sorts of emotions, I can help them and they can help me. This feeling of mutual understanding and involvement is amazing!” says Vladimir Soloviyov, the radio’s presenter.

And some of the listeners even say the queen of the party, Gloria Gaynor, was not so much of an attraction to them, as the occasion to pass on their special birthday wishes to the station.

“Gloria Gaynor is a good performer of a style I'm not interested in. I came here not because of her but for the sake of the radio station I really love,” admitted musician Andrey Makarevich.

Silver Rain did treat its friends well and presumably got many more, so it now looks set to shine for years to come.
