As befits a cold country, Russia boasts one of the largest ice caves in the world, the only one in the country opened to tourists.
The Kungar Ice Cave is a complex of 20 grottos, stretching on for almost six kilometres. The Diamond grotto marks the start of the crystal maze.

Tour guides say that the cave has its own spirits
“The cave is special because here you can see purified crystals, formed when cold and warm air streams collide. And it has ice all year round,” said Lev Ivanov, a tour guide.
The cave dates back 12,000 years. It has been open for tourists since the early 20th century. And they still appreciate it today.
The spectacle attracts around 100,000 tourists each year. But with little done to promote the cave abroad, foreign tourists are few in number. Those who run the cave say they want the world to share the beauty of this natural phenomenon.
