The mother of nine-year-old Rubina Ali Qureshi condemned her ex-husband for allegedly trying to sell the nine-year-old and blames him for brainwashing the girl.

Khursheeda Begum, mother of three children including the world famous Rubina, who starred in the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, recently confirmed charges by London's News Of The World that Rafiq Qureshi was trying to illegally sell the girl for £200,000.

Despite Rafiq Qureshi being caught on TV-tape demanding £200,000 in exchange for his daughter police, who investigated the case after a complaint from Ms Begum, didn’t take any action saying there was no evidence against Qureshi and that the footage did not incriminate the man.

Begum can’t ever afford a custody battle, however. Recently the mother has appeared desperate to do anything to have her children returned and make people think the worst of her ex-husband, telling the News Of The World that “he’s a liar through and through… Rafiq is evil. He should be jailed for what he’s done.”

The unfortunate mother left her husband five years ago, as she “couldn’t stand his abuse and womanizing anymore.” She took the children with her, however, “poverty forced [the woman] to let them go back to him a year later”.

Now Khursheeda Begum blames Mr Qureshi and his new wife, Munni, for turning Rubina against her. “When I saw Rubina this week she attacked me, pulled my hair and accused me of abandoning her,” Begum said sobbing. But the woman says she adores her children “more than anybody can” and claims Rubina has been brainwashed.

Rafiq Qureshi has so far denied all allegations against him and says he would never do any harm to his child.

Qureshi was interrogated by the Mumbai police on April 20 after News of the World alleged he offered to auction off the nine-year-old daughter so she might leave the slums. Later he was officially cleared by the police.
