Snow Polo Cup held in Moscow

Published: 26 February, 2007, 17:48

The Snow Polo Cup has been held for the 4th time in Moscow. The final took place at the Equestrian Centre in Russia's capital. The organisers tried to recover lost traditions.

“Let other people play other things – the king of games is still the game of kings” – these words engraved near an ancient polo ground still contain the essence of the competition.

Polo traditionally attracted the noblest men as players and high society as the audience. But the weather in some countries only allows the traditional version of the game to be played for half a year or less – to overcome this, snow polo emerged. And in 2004, Moscow joined this list.

Victor Huaco tried to recover Polo traditions in Russia.

“I was crazy enough to bring polo back to Russia together with my wife. It was a lot of work, it was very difficult – but as with anything you do for fun, despite the hard work we had a lot of pleasure doing it,” he said.
