October 10 may be the day of the very last concert given by world-famous Spanish opera singer José Carreras. It will take place in Moscow’s International House of Music during the “Days of Spain” festival.
The organizers have said that José Carreras adores the Russian audience and is most likely to say farewell to his career in Moscow. The program of his solo performance will include his favorite arias from Giuseppe Verdi’s operas.
José Carreras used to sing on the best stages of the world, including the La Scala, Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera. In 1990, together with Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, Carreras created the famous opera project “The Three Tenors” which existed up until Pavarotti died in 2007.
Career in opera is not the only activity of the singer. He also directs and conducts operas, and records studio albums. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona he was the director of the Olympic art programs. His discography totals more than 150 records, among which are over 50 operas, oratorios, and also classical solo concerts – the sales of which went gold and platinum across the world.
José Carreras is also involved in charity. Following his own recovery from leukemia, Carreras sought both to repay the debt he owed to medical science and to improve the lives and care of other leukemia sufferers. On July 14, 1988, he established the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation in Barcelona.
