Nikolay Davydenko has had his $US 2,000 fine for not trying at the St. Petersburg Open overturned. The match in question was won by Croatian Marin Cilic 1-6, 5-7, 6-1.
Top-seeded Davydenko easily took the first set 6-1 but then made a number of double faults and unforced errors as his Croatian opponent hit back to win.
The Russian is currently at the centre of a betting investigation by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
It concerns a match in August involving Davydenko which was voided by British online betting service Betfair, because of irregular betting patterns.
Bookmakers Betfair said nearly $US 7 million was wagered before the match and during the first set. That's ten times the typical amount for this sort of contest.
