Legendary goalkeeper of Soviet times, Rinat Dasaev, celebrates his 50th birthday today, by being honoured with a match to make the mouth water: a “USSR All-Stars” team against the “Rest of the World” of the 1980's.

Nicknamed the 'Iron Curtain', Dasaev won five Soviet Championships with Spartak Moscow, went to three World Cups, and starred for the USSR when they finished runners-up at the 1988 European Championships.

Capped 91 times by his country, the keeper has assembled an all-star cast for this evening's match. And with Blokhin and Belanov up against the likes of Weah and Junior, it should have fans of 80's football feeling somewhat nostalgic.

“I think it’s a big deal. The fact that so many famous people came here says that my football career was not in vain, and I was worth at least something as a human being. Such great people from the Rest of the World team came from far away to play in Moscow. That means they have respect for me,”  Rinat Dasaev says.
