Well-known Russian ensemble aspires to Grammy

The Moscow Soloists ensemble has been nominated for a Grammy Award. The group is led by prominent Russian conductor Yury Bashmet.  They will compete in the Best Small Ensemble Performance category.

The famous musicians were nominated for their album, which includes Chamber Symphonies by Shostakovich and Sviridov.

The award recognises the work of both the ensemble and the conductor. The Grammy winners will be announced in Los Angeles on February 11.

Maskayev defeats Okhello on points

Russian WBC heavyweight champion, Oleg Maskayev, defeated Ugandan Peter Okhello in his first title defence fight in Moscow on Sunday. The judges saw it as a one-sided contest with a unanimous decision on points.
