West Ham United handed record fine

Published: 28 April, 2007, 01:32

The London club were handed the punishment by a Premier League Panel, on Friday, on charges of breaching ownership rules in relation to their signings of Argentines Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano last August.

West Ham United have been fined a record 5.5 MLN pound fine, the biggest in English football history.

But the club have avoided a points deduction which could have ended their hopes of staying in the premiership as the club is currently under new management and ownership.

Tevez still plays for the Hammers, while Mascherano has since joined Liverpool.
