Dub FX, a unique street performer, can be spotted all over Europe with unforgettable live sets. He doesn't use musical instruments, preferring to create sounds only with his vocal chords, a sampler and guitar gadgets.
By popular demand he is coming to tour Russia for the second time. Apart from Moscow, he has already visited Tomsk (Siberia) and Samara (Central Russia), and plans to give concerts in St. Petersburg and Sochi (Southern Russia).
Australian-born Dub FX is one of those rare nuggets who appear out of the blue and stun the world with their talent.
Dub FX has rejected working with any record label; one can buy his records only through his website, on his gigs or from his girlfriend during free performances in the streets of Europe. Benjamin (the original name of the musician) describes his style as follows: “A schizophrenic Gemini beat-boxer performing live in the street…” Lately the talent and popularity of the artist has finally driven him to fixed-priced gigs in clubs and concert halls.
Aged 17, Dub FX bought some guitar gizmos and made up a reggae-rock band “Twitch” – later renamed “Never Or Now” – with his friends. However this project didn’t go further than an unsuccessful demo-album.
Then Dub FX decided to use his fancy guitar features in a new way – he picked up a microphone and started experimenting with his voice. In 2005, Dub FX recorded his first solo album and returned to Europe to become a street musician.
The further history is already recent past. The musician moved to England, where he changed his name to his current artistic pseudonym. The street performer now lives in Bristol, UK. His visit to Russia, with a gig at Moscow’s “16 Tons” on September 23, will be more than a long-awaited event for thousands of his Russian fans.
Shostakovich off the banned wagon!Revolutionary Russian composer Dmitry Shostakovich has inspired the avant-garde Russian artist Dmitry Krymov to stage a performance, which he presented at the international theatre festival in Lyon. |
