Both Maria Sharapova and Anna Chakvetadze have booked their passage into the semi-finals of the WTA Sony Ericsson Championship in Madrid.
Sharapova lost the first set 7-5 against world number two, compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova, but then stormed back to secure the next two by the same 6-2 scoreline.
Her final opponent in the round-robin stage will be Ana Ivanovic. However as both have already qualified for the semi-finals from the red group, the match will have no significance.
Meanwhile, Chakvetadze joins Justine Henin in qualifying from the yellow group, after beating Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, in a tough three-setter.
