NATO and Russia in deadlock over missile defense

July 04, 2011 05:34

NATO says it is not going to build a joint anti-missile system with Russia and does not find it necessary to provide legal guarantees the shield will not be targeting Russia. However, both sides remain positive, with at least some progress achieved.

Jean-Claude Meslin
there will be no fall, remember this speech, In February 2008, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the recognition of Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence by several major world powers as "a terrible precedent, which will de facto blow apart the whole system of international relations, developed not over decades, but over centuries", and that "They have not thought through the results of what they are doing. At the end of the day it is a two-ended stick and the second end will come back and hit them in the face".[1] During an official state visit to Serbia following the declaration, Russian President-elect Dmitry Medvedev reiterated support for Serbia and its stance on Kosovo.

< BR> "They have not thought through the results of what they are doing. At the end of the day it is a two-ended stick and the second end will come back and hit them in the face" my favourite part.. now read this..

Russian leaders can organise 1000 of those fancy conferences and  wast millions $ for food and drinks. It will change nothing. It is just bla bla bla: Talking to say nothing and do nothing...
The US-NATO bunch want the whole control of Earth's natural resources and all humans' minds. For Rsmussen (N°1 US "putain") Sarkozy, Cameron, Berlusconi, Obama etc. there is no alternative.
Neve rtheless that whole US-NATO = only 12% of mankind.
It is up to the other 88% to say stop and initiate something else.
Russia and her BRICS friends could re-establish the balance. Unfortunately, their leadership is weak or already corrupted by the capitalist way of life. One thing is certain: the longer we wait,
the hardest will be the fall...Best Regards...Jean-Claud e Meslin

I knew already there are more grey hairy people than they were in my youth. But when I saw this bunch of people in this movie it looks like the greys have become overhand, even among relatively young people.

It is shameful and stupid  for Russia to sit with North Atlantic Terrorist Organisation(NATO) and discuss joint anti missile defence, demanding legal guarantees that its missiles will not be attacked. NATO is a cover for the United States empire and its getting closer to Russia's borders. Russia is the world's largest country and it is a military superpower that no one can match. It can send man to space and to the bottom of oceans. So, Russia's leaders must understand their responsibilies and prevent NATO from bringing down eastern civilization.

This will fuel the war economy.
Witch is never a good thing.
It will just be a waste of resources and energy.
Resources that could be used for the benefit of people.

After the Warsaw Pact was dissolved Clinton promised Russia NATO wouldn't expand into Eastern Europe. Why would any sober Russian leader now believe a reassurance from NATO on this missile defense shield.  It is designed to suppress Russia's  nuclear deterrent and weaken it's global influence.

Russia is so large with huge boarders with euorope and NATO wants her missiles as close as it can get to Russian boarders and also wants Russian missiles as far back as it can go away from EU boarders.Western imperialism and its guard dog "NATO"are either testing the Russian leadership,s intelligence or just merely taking a micky. They are clearly using this meeting as a smoke screen to cover the real agenda s.Invasion of Lybia,Ivory coast and soon Yemen Sumali. and Syria.

The system is targeted against Russia by default - 40 ships with 400 interceptors plus ground based systems and radars. Iran doesnt even have 1 ICBM, what are 400 interceptors aiming at? Russias ICBMs no doubt.  40 ships is close to an armada- hardly a mild 'defense' force.   I still dont think the US and NATO are actually planning to conduct a first strike on Russia but im sure they are trying to subjugate Russia. Russia isnt a big threat economically - if the US can make Russia do what it wants politically and allow for a more colonial approach to the access of its resources then the US can nullify any threat from Russia. That is probably what the US is aiming for.   The US might consider a first strike if Russia doesnt bow - I dont think the US would be pushing Russia so hard if it didnt already have first strike capability or have it very soon. This can be confirmed by many publications that are out there freely accessible to the general public. Of course it could all be wrong but we will see what happens I guess.

In my humble opinion, on Missile Defense matters, the approach I think should be:
Work with NATO in the negotiations "game."Do Not Trust NATO; deeds speak more than words.Develop weaponry that defeats their "Missile Defense" strategy.Maintain the peace and readiness that allows Russia to grow economically.

Russia should never forget the lessons from the last time an Axis power approached her with a proposal to be "friends".  Germany and Russia signed a non-aggression treaty that lasted only until Germany was able to complete her conquest of Europe.
Now, a new Axis has arrived on the continent of Europe, the US-NATO Bund.  This Axis is again approaching Russia with a proposal to be "friends". I can almost assure Russia that as soon as this Axis has completed their conquest of Arab countries, they will turn their attention to Russia. This US-NATO Bund will not launch a direct attack on Russia as the former German Axis did, but it will slowly begin to destabilize the Russian society by agitating the muslims and other non-Russians into open revolt against the Russians.
I am absolutely convinced that the ultimate goal of the US-NATO Bund is the final dissolution of the Russian state.
The Russian delegation, sitting across the table from the US-NATO Bund representatives, must not be lullabied to sleep by their perfidious smiles and bows.  The Russians should study the conduct of Vyacheslav Molotov.  Sure, Molotov was ordered by Stalin to sign the non-aggression treaty, but unlike Stalin, he never trusted Hitler, nor his Nazi generals.

What a big surprise! Nato doesn't want to work together with Russia anddoesn't need to guarantee that the missile shield is targeting Russia!! How much more is required so Russia finally stops begging ?

Are the Russians imbeciles. They ONLY one that is a threat to Nato is Russia and the ONLY purpose for placing those MDS near Russia is to DOMINATE Russia, PERIOD. Any other talk or thought on this matter is obtuse and obsolete. Once those MDS are installed in Europe, the whole planet belong to NATO and its Dogs. Russia can kiss goodbye to all its natural resources. Russia shall make aware all its citizen to what is coming and they shall make the final decision.

@kris nymark:Is it good for any country to be in range of a (or several) strategic missile systems? Are there no excuses to stop us from get involved? What in gods name are you even saying?
There seems to be only one reasonable claim that this missile shield is a good idea, which is a better relationship between the elites of NATO countries and that of Russia. Seriously, why would anyone even want to build more machinery of mass destruction? It's a project to keep certain individuals (and their successors) in power, and to export wealth from the community of the member states (currently in a financial crisis) into the weapons industry.
It is a project of sick aspirations, made with or without the intent to harm humanity, but it's usage not without serious consequences to people in the area.Safety is not the issue here, the issue is whether we will allow a multi-billion dollar multi-national WMD to be constructed (in our own backyard nonetheless).
You can't expect to be safer just because you bought bigger guns, even though you might even feel like you are. That does not make an enemy (by the way, who is our enemy?) disappear, or proliferate.

kris nymark Why are you blaming Russia for crimes of Germany? The German ruling elite see this war for what is: looting Libya’s oil and gas and they want to get their share of the loot. Germany was always been aggressive and now we see the unleashing of this long suppressed aggressive power- the Russians are not alarmed- they think they have powerful nukes- and they are right but the same is not true for Libya.

Its lack of trust to Russia and if each part want to act together it can be done by small step to like a marriage it doesn’t come over one night. But i don’t get why defense can’t be together and then leave the attack strategy for each part. i don’t believe there is much to lose on that if any war will break out it would not look good anyway and the system can’t break or beat any warheads there are too many to do so and submarines that can be placed anywhere in the world for that scenario. Who will feel safer without? And it’s good for EU to have a close partner near us and USA does not count for that and take their interest first but it’s our security not really there. Then there is the weapon industry that USA doesn’t want Russia to inter with NATO partnership. There are not really any excuses
