National Service is a good thing, however there are huge problems, there is abuse of the recruits in many areas, and we all know of the ones who buy false medical papers or hide in a garden. So getting a real picture of what is going in is difficult, unless you have been through it. A Smaller Contract army is the way we need to go for front line operational duty, absolutely no doubt about it. We can live with a smaller army, supported with a greater Nuclear and technology element, and that is the way to go, for an efficient fornt line capability. It is indeed where we are going. The National service element should be more second line, to carry on providing core training and development of people in society. Send a boy and he will return a man, that is our saying.
