Russian Foreign Minister begins South American tour

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov heads to Argentina at the beginning of his South American tour. In the framework of the tour Mr Lavrov is to join the meeting of foreign ministers from the countries of South American Market.
Mr Lavrov will hold talks on boosting economic ties and trade co-operation with Argentina, which Russia sees as a gateway to the Latin American market.Argentina is by far Russia's biggest trade partner in the region. Trade between the two countries increased by more than 50% last year.However, Russia wants to use Argentina's position as a member of the Mercosur, the South American Common Market, to broaden its dealings in the region.The next stop of Sergey Lavrov's tour is Brazil where he will join a meeting of foreign ministers from the Mercosur countries.
