I can't think of any EU leader who could walk among the populace of their respective countries without being molested. In fact this probably applies to most politicians. My only surprise in this story is the people managed to get as close as they did. Perhaps Sarkozy's diminutive stature saved him. Place any two distinctly different cultures together, and there is competition for supremacy, with one or the other eventually assimilating or integrating into the other, or there is rejection and segregation with rising tension as is happening in Europe. With the collapse of the social welfare system in Europe, and under economic hardship there will be increasing competition for survival, and this superficial harmony will disintegrate.
