Conversations about the swine flu tend to revolve around who has it, where it has appeared, what the symptoms are, and how to prevent it. But there's little conversation about the risks and havoc of the swine flu online.

Hi, today my daughter has been told that it is likely she has swine flu. I was shocked in the way tht it is dealt with.. we were asked over the phone by our doctor, what her symptoms were, after asking a further set of questions, she told me tht it is highly likely my daughter has swine flu.. so I obviously asked, so how do we go about testing her to find out if it is deffinately swine flu.. apparently, because by testing the swine flu.. means going to your local gp or the local hospital it spreads the disease even more, so now you are not to enter a&e at your hospital, and you are not allowed to visit your gp, u are to telephone, they ask a series of questions, to which they make their diagnosis... basically, as long as u do not have any other complications, like asthma, apparently you will be fine, i was told, it is this yrs flu epidemic, and it is only a serious risk if you have any illness tht causes low immune system!! My 15 yr old daughter does have asthma so it puts her into the at risk sector, so she is to be treated with the anti biotic 'tami flu', I am to watch for worsening symptoms, and if the fever continues to rise after three days on the treatment then i am to contact the doctor again, we had to leave a phone no, where we can be reached 24 hrs a day for updates tht they may feel we need to know.. apparently, they do believe she deffinately has the swine flu, so i obviously as a mum ask about my other two daughters, 17, and 9 yrs old... my eldest daughter, is also presenting symptoms, she has flu like symptoms, but as yet, is not as ill as her sister, she has no temperature as yet, and her limbs are not hurting too much, so the doctor just advised tht i wait and see if the symptoms get worse over the next day or two... what i dont understand, is,.why are my 2 daughters myself and husband not being offered the tablet as a preventative measure?? can anyone tell me if the treatment we r receiving is right or not??? hope this also helps others panicking!

hi jemma please dont worry as my email above mentions my daughter has just been diagnosed with swine flu.... my doctor has assured me tht the media attention that is being given is exaggerating the problems caused... they say tht it is only critical, or dangerous if you have any other illnesses tht cause your immune system to be low, ie asthma being the most common, which my daughter has, basically, if u are a normally fit and healthy person, they are not even offering treatment for the swine flu to you, because they are saying it is just this seasons flu.. and nothing to worry about if your fit and healthy, not nice to suffer with it, but certainly not deadly, most cases with swine flu tht are reported on the news etc, are cases where the children have other complications, and this is what has caused their sad deaths, not actually the swine flu.. well thats what my doctor is telling me at the momeent, she assures me it is nothng to worry about, when my husband went to the chemist to collect the treament for my daughter, there were a further 6 people there colllecting the same treatment, for their family, so it is a lot more common than is being admitted, cos if 6 people were there all from the same area, just in the short time my husband was in the chemist, how many more a day are going there?? its frightening really... i believe that the government should be doing more advertising to tell us all, what we should do about it, if we suspect it, and also, once we have been diagnosed with it, what do we do, and just how bad is it to have this disease.... is it as unworrying as the doctors are saying or is it tht we should worry more than the doctors are actually letting on... reading on the internet, it says they are no longer testing suspects for it cos of the spread of it, then mention confirmed cases n those in hos in a critical condition,.. confusing!!! where r the government to help us??

Hi, today, as you are probably aware there has been two more confirmed deaths from swine flu. As a mother of two i am very concerned about my own children getting the virus. The thing that really panics me is the fact that my youngest daughter, who is only two has kidney problems. She had a major operation in november last year and is still undergoing treatment. There has been confirmed cases in my area and i am finding it a real worry................ What is the government going to do to help people and communities ???? Can anyone tell me if they know of anyone with a kidney condition that has had swine flu. The government keep banging on about cases where people have died is only because they had underlying health issues,, yet the most recent sad deaths have been that of normal healthy people, one of a which was a six year old girl. Surely the government should be doing something to help or at least try to put peoples minds at ease. I know that there is a lot of scare mongering going on but it seems that this is becoming more worrying that we first though.!!!!!

what has worried me the most is that Sky News scared everyone, and went on and on about it for a week or so, that was when only 3 cases in scotland had been diagnosed. Yet since then there coverage has gone so quite except clips running across the bottom of the screeen, which starting going in to dozens, hundreds and now thousands. Now even some infants and children have died ( so called with underlining conditions, but do we trust the government, no!), how come there is less important news repeated constantly, and pretty boring hour after hour on sky news , yet something as serious as this should be kept up with, yet they have gone fairly silent. It is scare mongery by sky news and they should be more responsible and rebalance this back again and let us all know exactly what is going on with experts on there program. I have commented today because we have just had a suspected case of swine flu in my sons school in the colwyn bay area, and we have a bigger worry as we have a 14 yr old disabled daughter who is weak and would struggle to survive this. I am know petrified of what might happen. I remember the scottish saying that they have this under control thats when there was only 3 cases, is there nothing that we can do right in this country the goverment are becoming a liabilty full stop. Hope for all our sakes this does not become a bigger killer.

It's just a flu. Like anyother. You will be fine and so will everybody else. If you get it it will make you stronger so next flu season you will be more able to fight it.
