What should have been a consumer's dream has quickly turned into a shopper's nightmare at one of Moscow's leading electronics stores.
A laptop computer sale has led to mass shoving in one of Russia's largest electronics retailers – “Eldorado”. Several customers suffered minor injuries in a stampede at the store.
The store had offered 250 laptops at the reduced price of $ US 300, but it turned out that the demand was at least three times as high.
As a result of the hassle, part of those customers eager to get computers for a 50 % discount found themselves with checks in hands but no laptops and the other way round.
“Unfortunately, some of the customers were not polite and a conflict developed between several of them,” the company’s press representative said.
It was only when the police arrived at the shop that the buyers calmed down.
Store officials admitted they didn't expect that so many people could afford laptops in the current economic climate.
The “Eldorado” chain organized laptop sales just before the beginning of the school year so that customers could buy modern hardware for themselves and their children.
Those who paid the special price for a laptop but did not receive one will be allowed to purchase a computer at the advertised price in the near future, shop officials said.
