Russian scientists have been experiencing a difficult period in 90's, with salaries often ranging around 20DM, so that many prominent scientists went abroad (US, UK, etc). For example, Abrikosov is in US now and it doesn't seem like he is going to come back home. The Jewish scientists have also went into US, Israel, and elsewhere. Now the situation is much better and Russian science is uprising again. The Russia has never been lacking in young, motivated experts who, I am sure in that, will become some new "Abrikosovs" soon. The cities of science will flourish further undoubtedly.
