Plutonium to Pluto: Russian nuclear space travel breakthrough

April 03, 2012 13:21

A ground-breaking Russian nuclear space-travel propulsion system will be ready by 2017 and will power a ship capable of long-haul interplanetary missions by 2025, giving Russia a head start in the outer-space race.

Orion Project, google it America could of been the first to claim the solar system planets but squabbling over worthless cotton sheets and Wall Street-funded nonsense defense ruined America's chances for leading the space race, as usual.

"A ground-breaking Russian nuclear space-travel propulsion system will be ready by 2017 and will power a ship capable of long-haul interplan etary missions by 2025, giving Russia a head start in the outer-space race."

HAHAHA !! Well, then I guess that, just like in the 60's, we'll have to fake our own propulsion system to win the race, right?

If this is true it will be the biggest leap in space travel since humans stepped onto the moon. It will make travel around&n bsp;the solar system a practical&nbs p;proposition. It will make space stations around other planets  practical. It will provide a 'bus' that can run between the moon and earth for years. But is it true? Or is it an announcement th at will soon be forgotten.  And from which nothing practical will follow?  Actually I think it is true. There are a reasons to believe that the current government of Russia would like to do something in Space that.      (1) Was a way of overcoming&n bsp;the limits to energy supply in Space.     (2)  An accomp lishment to rank alongside the first satellite and the first       man   in space.Good. P.S. I hope I'm not being cynical but I note that this breakthrou gh is planned to occur just before the next Russian presidential election.

Let's follow the assumptions of the beany science nerds who still see no hypocrisy and clear and present danger involved in a scientific method that demands live specious subjects, just as Jews were valued in the Science Driven Nazi Holocaust.  Let's assume mining another planet was economically feasible, Countries cannot even cooperate where economics does make it nonsensical not to do so, for example the Kurile Islands and the Falkland Islands.  Elsewhere on Earth, development of space research is uneven and will definitely involve powers with more capacity than others.  These powers would definitely be massively boosted by any planetary scale influx of resources, this influx will pump the egos of these powers just the same way as the age of Imperialism flooded the coffers of Imperial Powers.   The result was massively increased competition and warfare.  It will be the same with space, note the star wars programme... The Earth needs to unite under resurrection generating behaviour and realise the renewable nature of geological processes via intra-atmospheric travel rather than be disunited and torn apart under the oppressive costs of space travel....

Thank you Mr Hand!
RT needs a serious slap over the Knuckles.
They were caught Plagiarising a St Petersburg Journalist and Researcher the other day. She was not happy, and RT had to re-write their story and credit their 'stolen' photographs.
This story is worse than something that you'd find on Pravda.

Congratu lations to the Russian team of scientists on their continued success!

I find it very telling the United States were viewing this application for themselves as a possible segway to power a new weapon. The concepts for particle and microwave weapons was explored and developed in WW2 and post WW2. In otherwords for a full 50 years (half-century), one of the major draw backs has been the amount of energy required to power them as the stumbling block.

There is so much Russia and Russians need to do. Improve the Tupulov and Sukhoi and Antonov aircrafts. They exist and were useful. But was pathetic in terms of customer care. The cabin was lousy and facilities sub standard. Today Aeroflot is buying American made aircrafts and spending million upgrading its fleet. That money could be well spent inside Russia paying Engineers todo a better job. There are so many others such as super stable and efficient Aircraft engines from  Perm Motor Group. they could use some western style credit facilities to sell their engines for Power Plants constructions.  I really hope Russian Leaders are not planning to waste money on a wild goose chase to Space Aliens, when Russian people need real services. There are so many new cases of diabetes affecting Russian children, and all those children use Novorapid or Lantus from Europe, what the hell is Russian Academy of Science and medical division doing? To all those nationalistic Russian jumping in jubilation on such a silly announcement, wake up. Support real Russians. not some pipe dreams. we cannot eat them.

I can't believe that Russia Today photo shopped in a rad warning sign on the bottom of a F1 engine assembly .... especially since it is an American rocket?
Come on RT! You can do better than that! Lets talk fuel cladding for Pu, ceramic coatings and the use of slush hydrogen as a reactor moderator/fuel?
I 'm going out there on a limb and suggesting right here that Russia has not perfected plutonium fuel assembles for a working nuclear engine.
In fact, I can almost guarantee it.

I, for one, welcome our new Russian Federation masters.  (Sorry, I couldn't help myself --  ;-) )
As an inert gas, Xenon provides a good beginning for ion propulsion.  The ion engine will be fully mature when a spacecraft can scoop up hydrogen from outer space itself, or methane from a moon, for use as a propellant.  Likewise, scale up that 100.0 kW reactor by 1000x to power synthetic gravity, laser cannons, and hyper-velocity rail guns.
But where is that "zero point energy" solution that we as a species really need, both on Earth and in space exploration?

I think a permanent base on the Moon is a top priority. No need to wait till 2025 as it can be done with the todays technology in 2-4 years.

Moon far side is an obvious target. Somewhere around Tsiolkovskiy crater and around Fermi walled plane. A deep space telescope among other things.

I only hope that President Putin will have enough of courage to make a decisive step along that line.

RUSSIA FINDS A SOLUTION TO THE ZIONIST QUESTION wrote in #3
It was well worth the investment to find a way to send them to anouther planet. beter yet a different galaxy if possible please. They are already on their way mate, direct to destruction. There is a youtube video just out where, a 9/11 investigator talks to the American military, proving israel did the job; the first reaction from the military wonk was disbelief, then fury - he states the government is owned by israel but certainly not the military. Watch the panic now; I will repeat: stay far away from israel, city of london and, wall street - some people with fingers close to buttons have run out of patience.
