Spain braces for further cuts amid national uproar

February 29, 2012 08:23

Spain, whose economy – the fourth largest in the eurozone – is staggering under a burden of debt, is preparing for further austerity measures after its finance minister revealed that the 2011 budget deficit was substantially higher than expected.

6) Stopping bars from playing music, great, just what the holiday maker wants.... not! Towns are becoming a mess with more empty shop fronts, one of the reasons are the owners looking for stupid rent and are not intelligent enough to understand that taking half of what they ask is better than not getting anything for years 'another problem' but town halls are closing down businesses through fines or otherwise, things they have been permitted to do for years but town halls need money and anything is a legitimate target, result is closing businesses down, great foresight be these people and just what the holiday maker needs, towns that look dirty with empty unkept shop fronts, no music and police looking to fine then for any step they put wrong.

7) No disrespect meant to the Spanish but they are arrogantly stupid and think 'ripping off' is a legitimate way of doing business, they need to come into the 21st century.

Spai n 'certainly the south' survive on tourism and investment from abroad, what makes these people think that killing tourism is going to fix their problem? Looking at the above mentioned problems will not sort out Spains problems but it will go a long way to helping and getting things moving, Spain has destroyed foreign investment for many years to come and is continually loosing these investors confidence in investing here. They need to get moving fairy quickly if they stand a chance at getting things back on track over the next 10 years, otherwise they just keep slipping deeper into this great black hole they keep digging themselves into.

3) The justice system is third world, it takes years for anything to get done and when it is done it is generally racist against non Spanish, this is something that most forign people know as they have had to use the system at some stage.

4) Corruption, corruption and more corruption, some of these people are taken to court but as mentioned before the justice system is third world so it takes an age to get anywhere and the general result is that by the time a case gets to it's end the person being changed is left to keep the money they took then they are let out of jail a couple of years later to live in luxury.

5) Local police and authorities continually making if difficult for small business who provide services to other businesses to do their work. Most all businesses need to be supplied by goods yet they are continually intimidated by police about parking to make deliveries, parking for deliveries is lacking and is limited for 'antiquated' Spanish working hours while most of these delivery companies need to deliver all day long. Anything that is delivered in a van or car that has no sign on it is fined, anything that needs to double park to deliver because there is no place provided is fined. Local authorities are supposed to help small businesses in their areas... not try to put them out of business.

2) Spanish government and local authorities are killing small businesses and preventing others from opening. The moment you start your business you need to pay 260 Euros a month on SS for yourself. If you want to employ someone you basically pay 50% more of their wage in SS, but you also need to pay someone to do the paperwork for employing that person, even if you employ someone for a couple of hours you need to go through the whole process of alta and baja... just plain crazy, it needs a simple system where SS is reasonable and where the employer can employ people with simplicity and ease, like PAYE in the UK for example. Is it not better to get small payments in SS from workers than nothing, which they are getting now as people just don't register as employed because it costs too much.

The Spanish have no idea how to start to fix this problem, the main problem with the Spanish is that their mindset is from 40 years ago.
1) Fix the property problem, there are people who have no home, people being told they are going to have their homes sold, people who are being told their homes are not legal, people who buy and then the hacienda come along and tell them they owe them more money!!! The purchasers did nothing wrong in these situations yet they are being punished, even after 5 years people who came to retire here and spend their last years in the sun in a relaxed lifestyle have lost their properties or are loosing them.
I don't think the Spanish understand that these people comunicate by talking to people and on social networks, France is now the number 1 location for others purchasing property abroad, why? because the invester no longer trust a country where they are ripped off, have a third world justice system and get ripped off every way they turn.
What would you do in your retirement if you wanted to live abroad, purchase in Spain where one hand doesn't know what the other is doing and take the chance of loosing your property or being ripped off by having extra charge added to your purchase and making your retirement a misery or buy in a country where you know you will be treaded with honesty and integrety? I know what I would do and it would not be to buy in Spain.

Greece was chosen as the scapegoat for the rest, including the entire capitalist network with its so-called net-web-of-debt. And if they were afraid that the domino effect can start from there, how about the much bigger economy as Spain is - with 23% unemployment? The collapse of the capitalism nears by the day.

is where Putin's house is.  So it's funny to see Assad wanting Russia's help when it reaks of Russia doing the Arab Spring.
