Suspect ‘confesses’ to schoolgirls’ murder: police

A 23-year-old man has allegedly confessed to the vicious rape and murder of two Russian schoolgirls aged 12 and 13. The bodies of Anya Makhnatkina and Anya Lyutykh were found in a forest outside Zlatoust, in the Chelyabinsk region. They’d been raped, stra

A description of the assailant was given by the sole survivor of the attack, the seven-year-old sister of one of the victims.

Police say the suspect has a criminal record including robbery and aggravated assault.

“After the suspect was detained, he confessed to the crime and told the investigators in detail what he had been doing before committing the offence, how he followed the girls and all his subsequent actions. The girl who survived and several witnesses identified him. I can now say for sure that this case has been completely solved,” said Pavel Cheurin, head of the investigating committee.
