Costly affair: UK marks Queen’s diamond jubilee amid crisis
June 04, 2012 19:44
Pompous festivities are taking place throughout Britain this long weekend with millions celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s diamond jubilee. But some found it hard to get festive among the job cuts, slashed wages, petrol hikes and rising education costs.

For all you pro-monarchy children out there, one thing to remember.
The queen is quite happy to read what parliament puts in her lap at the time of the queens speech and she doesn't bat an eyelid when reading to the nation how our taxes are to be raised, how our benefits will be cut or scrapped, how our public companies will be sold to the highest bidder, how our financial system will make paupers out of millions of "subjects", how our politicians will make war. Then it's off for lunch and forget the whole sorry business until next year.
I am neither a royalist or an anti-royalist and believe this queen does provide a service to the nation, but before anyone writes in to tell me that her hands are tied in such matters, I say she is the head of state and knows what is going on behind the scenes, end of. Oh, and Prince Philip wants to come back as a virus and wipe out all the commoners. That includes you and all your family, friends, etc...
There is nothing wrong with the Queen as a person...she like horses and looks the part in her guilded carriage and may provide an escape from the real world. But its the real world thats important....not occasional royal events for national pride sessions. The monarchy is a business and its for show only. The Queen knights people she likes and allocates MBE Members of the British Empire medals to various people that have "served the crown" like the BEATLES. Its all harmless stuff and makes everyone happy but it does not really serve any meaningful purpose given its cost to the taxpayer. Why have such a monarchy with no empire. King Charles 3 may answer all these questions...because he is not seen as a natural born leader....or a man of the people. Pity because he is probably a very charming person...rejected by the Queen who will never abdicate until she is 101.
Paranoia is bad- This news site is shite (unregistered)06.06.2012 22:00
I feel I should add something resembling balance to this unlikely conspiracy, lest you lot all lose your heads, and end up paranoid even at your deathbeds... My cousin works as a Royal Doorman at Buckingham Palace and has done so for 27 years. I have been invited to visit the palace (provided with a special entry pass, and entering through a side door) about 6 times and had a little look around the magnificent building- I have gone so far as to ascend the grand staircase and have seen the Queen's bedroom and the balcony overlooking the Mall. My cousin (whom I will not name) has met with the queen many times and is proud to say he is most definitely on friendly terms with her majesty. He recalls with fondness how he shares common loves of horses and classical music- and has spoke numerous times about the weather, charities and the war. Now, my cousin is probably the most generous, kind and trustworthy person one could ever hope to know, which perfectly explains her majesty's fondness for him. She too cares deeply for people, of love and life. In fact, I don't give a damn about whether she is rightfully Queen- she does a better job than anyone else would, and the world is better off for it! Anyway, the point I am making is that the Queen has no evil agenda- she is kindhearted and good. Conspiracy theorists ought to ACTUALLY learn something through personal experiences rather than believe what they read. Theorists should start enjoying life- give up the stupid paranoia of conspiracies and gods and demons. They don't exist!
Letting go of myths and legends is another human weakness. Fantasing about empire days and rituals like the changing of the guard is the stuff of dreams...making no sense. The Queen "humbled" by the people waving flags for her 60 years on the throne. She looked on as if thinking why are people so prone to hero worshipping as Cliff Richard was wheeled out of retirement with Elton John another faded pop star. Could it be that England has very little to celebrate or identify with England or Englishness. The pubs are shutting and there is the economy in such a shambles its not worth thinking about the future...its all about the past and the pageantry. Pity that hardly anyone could quote one line from any SHAKESPEARE play or name one English classical musician. No this was all about celebrities now...the monarchy is a brand or commercial for Great Britain.
Interesting that a defence of the British monarchy and the British aristocracy includes a diatribe about the assassination of a former KGB agent in London. Russia has skeletons in the cupboard like Britain. Britain had an empire which it lost due to mismanagement (divide and conquer) and wars with Germany on two occasions. WW2 bankrupted Britain with Eastern Europe (including half of Germany) ceded to the USSR until 1990. America financed the Nazis if you care to read the history. How else could they afford to build roads cars tanks ships and an army that nearly conquered the world. Even the British monarchy visited BERCHTESGARTEN to enjoy the view with the fuhrer. The Russians stopped Hitler in his tracks and Europe became a vast expanse of ruins. DRESDEN destroyed by the British at a cost of 120,000 civilian deaths. Nothing to be proud of there...or dividing Ireland. Britain never saw itself as European...and today it has lost its cultural identity due to mass uncontrolled immigration.
I know what country I would rather live in and it certainly isn't Russia's fake democracy with dictator Putin. How dare they attack us for our own peaceful and affectionate recognition of 60 years of a democratic monarch, when his secret agents brought radioactive poloniu m into this country to kill a critic which leaked radioactive polonium all over London and could have killed (perhaps has) innocent British civilians - we don't do that 'Vlad the impaler' does! Anyway the Russian people are stirring and hopefully Vlad will get what he deserves as ex KGB chief and mass murderer e.g. checknya.....
We have to keep the Nibbies, the bigots, the ignorant and the vacant minded who have bad memories entertained, less they will wake up and start bothering people.
For some real entertainment on the jubilee, check out the most excellent, The Artist Taxi Driver on Youtube. Enjoy...I did.
What ever you say about the monarchy much of London tourist section do relay heavily on the royal family for tourist especially from the US , it is predicted the royal family only spend 1% of what they actually bring into the country, this may have increased due to the current festivities but it does seem unlikely. Also the UK due to having a constitutional monarchy, they have all the political stances and benefits of a republic, this basically translates that for over a 100 years what problems the UK might have had it's not the monarchies fault
The monarchy lost much of its shine with the death of DIANA who was not wanted by the Royal Family as she upstaged them good and proper. Charles is rather odd and seems like the Last Emperor more at home in the garden. What does the monarchy do all day? With over a 1000 staff at Buckingham Palace there are very matters that need attending like restoring the paintings and planting some shrubs. Also other residences need attention at HAMPTON COURT BALMORAL WINDSOR CASTLE KENSINGTON PALACE STJAMES PALACE and SANDRINGHAM...some occupied by members of the family. Altogether over 100 people on the royal payroll acting as aristocrats. In France they cut their heads off in 1789....for that reason the French have a society based on fraternity and equality....Germany ditched the Kaiser in 1918. Nobody told the British their country has been sold out to Russian oligarchs...on the run. AUSTERITY excludes the monarchy.
This sort of reporting is obviously the product of the Kremlin spin machine. It is so unbalanced as to be embarrassing...I must apologise for my people. Britain might have its poor, but they at least have access to the NHS, public services and something resembling welfare. In Russia, at least 60% of the population is living near the poverty line and yet nothing is being done. The health care system across Russia is a joke (you must bring your own TOILET PAPER even at the Kremlin Hospital), pensions don't cover food, there is no public housing, and if you protest you are likely to have your head bashed in. Add to that the fact that we have an Imperial President, and we have nothing to say about other countries.
"Pompous"? Putin's inauguration resembled a coronation, except that the surroundings were incredibly tasteless. And I've been in Moscow for many May Day parades. They are pompous but also have missiles, tents and police goon squads beating up protestors. The Queen at least enjoys the affection of her people. Now Russian leader has enjoyed that in recorded history.
I would also like to add. How do we have the audacity to look upon the middle eastern countries with dictators running them and be disgusted? How can we declare that Assad should step down from Syria whiles at the same time celebrating our dictators 60 year reign? Royalists, you are a joke.
So here we are, the plebs, the commoners of Great Britain, celebrating the Queens 60 year reign on the throne. Celebrating it by spending more money we don't have on a massive four day party we can't afford. We grind production to a halt to celebrate a German family and Greek racist's 60 year reign on the throne. If any of you royalists did a minute amount of historical analysis you would discover that this family got to power through murder, sabotage and fear. If you did some more, you would also discover that this family committed treason of the highest order during WWII. Edward VIII left the country (he was not abdicated, only 10 minutes of research on sites not owned by the royal family or royalists will find that to be untrue), and struck up a deal with Nazi Germany to become King if they should win. So no matter the outcome of the war, the royal family would remain in power. There is also huge speculation as to who owns The Bank of England. A subsidiary compa ny named The Bank of England Nominees Ltd was set up in 1977 and it was made illegal to know who has shares in this company. Many believe it to be the Rothschild's a nd the Royal Family. This is just speculation but it is the most likely of all. The Bank of England Nominees Ltd carries out the central banking in our country and is entitled to issue cash, then lend it and charge interest to the government. We spend as much on paying back interest to private financiers per year as we do on the defence budget.Lets not forget about the fact that they don't pay tax, and in fact take money from us every year. They take roughly £40 million pounds per year from us. I for one, would much rather see that money go towards hospitals, schools and the like. Not one family. The whole thing is a disgrace and is nothing to be celebrated. Why don't we celebrate Cromwell? You know, the guy who brought democracy to our country. The guy who's grave was dug up by the royal family so his corpse could be hung, drawn and quartered after his son stupidly let the monarchy back in. Cromwell is the hero, not the Queen. September the 3rd is the day we should celebrate.

The Queen is the physical manifestation of the spiritual elitist injustice of England. You say the celebrations are for everyone well she could have atleast payed for it herself. No but the poor plebs payed for it even though were in a double dip depression. Well you know what, maybe England is a Saxon word for Ego.
I,m English, and love the monarchy it gives people pride!! not like russia and france who butchered thier royalty like mad savages...they represent good honor not marxist scum who have nothing
