If you believe that it is just the West that gathers data and information on their own populace then i feel sorry for you.

All major governments have internal and external data collections and spy programs.

Don't kid yourself that its just the west, this propaganda blinds people from looking at their own govenment's issues.

I think the government spies not only watch for terrorist plots, but that they also steal people's ideas, inventions, blueprints etc.
We might as well say everybody on the planet is documented in a file on some spy database and, that if you invent some good idea, great song or storybook, the authorities can, if they wish, steal it from you at any time, if you ever store it on an internet-connected computer. There is no freedom any more.

Then you wonder why the East is becoming the new West....

Interesting, I wonder if Cyprus has the right to kick the UK out of Cyprus. Surely they must have broken some rules in for what the bases use for, was agreed when Cyprus won it's independence.
Ki ck the brutal Brits out of Cyprus and lease the bases to Russia/China. This will bring a nice balance of power to the mid-east.

It's clear that the incident involving Miranda was to acertain the nature of info that Snowden leaked. Meaning the U.S. was involved all the time. Injunctions or sensitivity of info becoz of some unexplained risk signals the political damage this could cause. Don't forget that they also said this about Manning that the info he leaked had put people's lives at risk. And that was a lie. What they are not telling us is who exactly is at risk and how or why? There is deliberate ambiguity to justify breaking international laws. Just as 'War on Terror' is an all encompassing statement to shut us up and not ask questions.

¨“security, terror and organized crime.”¨

So they monitor the corrupt western banks?

Jari Sundell 23.08.2013 07:56

All those weird submarine cables being damaged in the Mediterranean Sea from 2008 and onwards makes much more sense now.

Seems GCHQ has been running some taps from the Ayios Nikolaos Station in Cyprus.

Akrotiri or Dikelia, Cyprus, most likely.

fran7 23.08.2013 07:15

Naughty Naughty UK GCHQ. to stop terror? just like in the 50s conspiracy with France and Israel I suppose. Yuk.

Phivos Chagal 23.08.2013 07:02

I could bet that this is in Cyprus. Take a look at any underwater internet cable global map and remember that the Uk has two military bases there.
