Ukraine’s “Naftogaz” company has paid its bill for Russian natural gas supplied in May. This happened just three days before the deadline set by Gazprom.

Thanks for your story. I think it's important to note that the payment from Ukraine was not made "three days before the deadline set by Gazprom." It was made three days before the due date specified in the contract agreed by both parties in January. There was no new deadline set. Ukraine simply complied with the due date in its contract, as it has since January, even though Russia repeatedly suggested the country wouldn't pay on time. In fact, every month since the contract, Ukraine has paid several days before the payment is actually due. The country has produced no debt since this agreement was signed - which is verifiable using Gazprom's own data. Tammy Lynch, Senior Research Fellow, Boston University
