Ukraine’s energy holding, Naftogaz, has said there are some problems with payments for Russian natural gas supplied in October.

With the start of the heating season, Ukraine is once again in the world news over its payments for Russian gas and possibility of a new gas war. Meanwhile Russia is actively courting Yulia Tymoshenko as the lesser of two evils in the Ukrainian presidential elections scheduled for January 2010: witness the Putin-Tymoshenko press conference in Livadia two days ago. However, the 'braided lady' was not always on such friendly terms with Moscow. Indeed, in the spring of 2007 she did the bidding of George W. Bush in calling for containment of Russia.
