Putin defends Crimean referendum legitimacy to EU leaders as Ukraine's southeast rallies

09.03.2014 19:27

Crimea’s upcoming referendum will reflect the legitimate interests of its people, Russian President Vladimir Putin told two EU leaders over the phone. Inspired by Crimea’s actions, eastern Ukraine is also protesting the coup-imposed government in Kiev.

And Russia is forced to help UA keep Crimea in its borders. The Budapest pact from 1994 is still valid. You sold Crimea for the nuclear weapon price. And now what? Chargaback?

Ho wever, UA does not have a legitimate government at the moment, so Crimea has a rare opportunity to decide for itself, what it wants to do.

The Budapest pact from 1994 does not say that a part of Ukraine cannot secede by its own will if it wants to.

It is the truth. This is what it is all about. For once, the Crimeans themselves actually get to decide what happens, instead of everyone else deciding it for them.
It is no longer Kiev that appoints the Governor, no longer Kiev that makes the laws, it is the Crimeans doing it for themselves.

Yo u can't hold a legal referendum while being occupied by an invading force. The current parliament of Crimea was Russian appointed, therefore is illegitimate. Get that through your thick skull.

When you repeat a lie 10000 times it will not become truth. I know that Russia don't care about law, but the rest of the world cars.

The n you did not hear news from Ukraine, only from BBC and/or CNN, which is why you don't know. The Ukrainian Army was set into a state of emergy as a response to the secession of Crimea, and even right now they are having drills in the Carpathians.

Ukraine has every right to defend it's territory under international laws and treaties. The secession your referring to is an illegal secession under Russian occupation. The current parliament of Crimea recieved 3% of the vote in previous elections, and being Russian installed is therefore illegitimate.

It does not need the approval of the rest of UA. It is enough if the majority of CRIMEANS THEMSELVES decide it. It does not need the approval of outsiders.
It is already de facto autonomous as it does not take any orders from Kiev.

Then why did the Ukrainian Army start mobilizing as soon as Crimea seceded from Ukraine? Oh... or is that a thorny question? hmm?

This is the first time since 1991 that Crimeans have a local Governor that is not appointed from Kiev. It is the first time that the voice of Crimean people is heard.

Seceded? When? Haven't heard about it. Only saw a comedy show with fake parliment, fake self defense forces examined as know from name russian soldiers. Never heard about whole UA refferendum completed with over 50% voting to allow Crimea separate.
