Israel continues its onslaught on Gaza having bombed forty targets overnight while UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon tours the region pleading for peace.

The deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, including women and children, has appalled Israelis, but most want their army to push on until Hamas' military capacity is broken.
If Hamas has a plan to lure invading Israeli troops into the dense warrens of Gaza's built-up areas by demonstrating passivity it might explain the performance of the organisation’s military wing in the battle so far.
Israeli forces are ploughing into Gaza City and other densely populated Palestinian areas as air and ground attacks against Hamas continue. Reports say some Israeli reservists are already in action in the region.
Fighting in Gaza shows no signs of letting up. With both Hamas and Israel ignoring UN ceasefire demands, Egypt is hosting frantic peace talks.
