Russia will now guard the borders South Ossetia and Abkhazia, but even with the new measures, fear remains that war may return to the conflict-torn countries who won their independence less than a year ago.
On the anniversary of the war in South Ossetia, victims of the conflict are being mourned on both sides of the border. But in Georgia the feeling of sadness is accompanied by anger at the country’s leadership.
According to the Russian Prosecutor’s office, the Georgian attack last August killed 162 Ossetians and wounded 250. For people who lost relatives in the attack, the grieving continues.
