NATO and Russia have failed to reach a consensus in a tug of war over tackling the Afghan drug problem. The alliance has rejected Moscow’s appeal to eradicate opium poppy fields in the Islamic Republic.

It is in NATO's interest to have uninterrupted flow of drugs to Russia for the damage it cost it imposes, it is in their interest to enable resistance aka "taliban" to finance themselves cause if there is no enemy to fight how they can justify to their peoples tax increases and cuts in social programs. Is like killing two birds with one stone.

So, NATO is refusing to eradicate the poppy fields? Is this news to RT? NATO has had 9 years to eradicate the poppy fields of Afghanistan, if they had wanted - but they don't I believe NATO, at America's behest, is deliberately protecting the poppy fields of Afghanistan. The reasons are varied and all are sinister: 1. There is a deliberate plan to destroy the Russian Federation by spreading poison into the veins of the Russian peoples. 2. As a payoff to the Afghan drug lords not to kill NATO troops. 3. Some high level American and NATO officials are profiting from the drug trade. The best course of action for the Russian Federation is to go ahead and napalm the Afghan poppy fields by themselves, and let the Americans and NATO howl to the moon about the "human rights" of the dead and maimed poppy growers. NATO's long-term goal is to destroy the Russian Federation as a competitor in Europe, and it will do whatever it can to achieve that goal, even to the point of funneling cocaine to the veins of the Russian people.

The CIA is behind the opium trade right now in Afghanistan and Pakistan . The costs of funding the bogus "war on terror" are very high and the American military is only interested in constant expansion. America prints billions of dollars just to keep giving to defense contractors . These "patriotic" defense contractors take their blood money to off-shore accounts in Bahamas , Cayman Islands and Switzerland . American tax-payers just keep sinking in a sea of debt from which they will never escape. Stop lending America money - please !

The one and only solution for Russia combating drugs, crime, alcohol and tobaco is to develope hi-tech technologies and tools for detecting and preventing these things and introduce death penalty for criminals and abusers. With posibility of money rewards and immunity for those, who decide to stop and help Police to catch moore criminals. And the most important thing, to improve standard of living and income of people in Russia !

I'm seeing a lot of elaborate conspiracy theories here. How about this simple one: only so much money can be spent without Congress, or a subcommittee of Congress, being required to be informed about where the money is going and justification for it. A lot of secret ops the CIA has been involved in cannot so easily be risked being made public by announcing it in Congress. The answer? Make your own money. The CIA has been doing it in South America for decades: allowing billions of dollars worth of drugs to be sold in exchange for a large cut. That, and the ISI loves money, and has been involved in Afghanistan since the 90s. You don't need to overthink this.

Russian Federation should stop wasting time talking to the Americans and just napalm the Afghan poppy growing region. After the flames have died down RF should drop leaflets informing the growers that this was just a warning. Post napalm-warning alternative option is for the RF to tell the drug smugglers that their fields will be left along as long as the narcotic is shipped to the US and NATO countries, particularly to UK and Germany.

Russia should work on closing the Manas base, because most of the drugs are entering CIS space from there and not through the Afghan - Tajik border. When drugs enter CIS, it's very easy and cheap to smuggle it further to Russia. That way Americans are selling their products (it's not a secret they are simulating the heroine production) to CIS and Russian people at a very cheap price. They are making big money and destroying CIS/Russian youth. Russia should fight this battle harder.

As I wrote in another comment (not published), drugs are weapons of mass destruction. In this Afghan case, it is obvious that destroying Russian people that way is an US-NATO' s well conceived strategy. Consequently, Mr Medvedev should include this tragic subject in all discussions with Obama (including, in the START treaty). Coincidently, the US' South-American "friends" do the same cynic drugs' present to sick America. It will be a lot better and quiet feasible, to associate the two super-powers for destroying once and for all that planetary pest...Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin

It is a true face of NATO top brass, only science and weaponry has been developing over the last century, neither their brains or culture or human-alike behaiviour. How one can be so increadibly cheek or stupid to say they do not want to leave people without means? This was said by socialist or communist? No, this was said by personalities, who put in graves hundreds of thousands people all over the world for sake of multinational corporations owners income...

America's never ending wars will continue as long as the rest of the world keep buying their debts, thus fueling the warmachine. The dollar is the worlds most trusted currency. But if we see a shift happens towards the euro, then and only then the dollar may loose its reputation. A probable scenario would be if saudi arabia would start to sell its oil for euros instead of dollars. This would push some nations to start to sell their usa debts, making it plunge and starting an avalanche of chaos, bringing usa's neverending wars to a halt. Some people within Goldman Sachs knew this so they made the greeks to start the euro crisis. Europeans - kickstart your minds! wake up!

Of course, the reason why the poppies are not being destroyed is that they are too valuable...Everybody make some money, but those who have boots and guns on the ground will control the flow...Perhaps Russia, or elements in Russia, including the military, are a bit jealous...Money is money...Are Russians getting a slice?...Sure, heroin addiction soars, people die, but so be it...Situation is like that of old mafia hypocrites, bosses, in USA: They say 'No deal drugs, forbidden, we will kill you for it' then they go and take 'street tax', or cut of money from dealers anyway...We know US/UK/Israel are corrupt dogs, yes...But is all Russian concern as altruistic as it is made out to be?
