This is a very good idea, I hope it surmounts to something. People in the West need to realize that if it weren't for the peoples of the Soviet Union, particularly Russians, all of Europe, as well as Great Britain and the USA would be speaking German today...

@ Armenian, that is very true, but what is also true is that everyone has the right to there opinion, whatever it may be, the Government has the right to say if Russia did contribute or did not, but to the individual it could be viewed from a different perspective, and on another note, this should be taught at schools, for no one in the world could take a German assault, Russia did, and for that of course, we are all eternally in debt.

Bad Idea, Russia does not need to be 'shielded' from false history. This man is political posturing. It is dangerous. When you force people with fines or imprisonment instead of presenting facts, you do not serve your own interests.

So, a legislative body, a judge, will decide which opinion is allowed. This is as stupid as other "denier" laws and just as likely to further what it wants to prevent. Well, off to burn some books, later.

Yes, good idea and while he's at it, let's not have any of that nonsense about how Russia signed a peace pact with Germany and even allowed them to perfect the Blitzkrieg on the Russia Steppes. I mean, if Hitler had not been free to run all over Europe with his armies, who knows what would have happened. Peace in our time, perhaps.

It's long overdue that Russia, the winner of the WW2 ( a far better esteem should be given to Stalin the actual winner with his steely stance at Stalingrad ) takes the gloves off and begin to tell the thruth ! Hitler was propped up, financed, armed by England, France, Holland and most of western Europe including , alas ,fascist Italy with the only scope of destroying communism in Russia . The farce of France turning tails, the pathetic so colled " battle of Britain " ( bomb have fallen on the poor parte of London and Coventry almost irrelevant to the war effort ) has to be told ( even UK has erected a rather pathetic statue to the " winner " that's Churchill ! ) When Staling defeated Germany at Stalingrad then and only then the " Friends of Germany " turned against her with the assistance of US. The rest, as they say, it's history.

PERCEPTION IS REALITY. That 2 people could read the same words and get 2 different opinions is not a mystery. Revisionist history is not something new. Russian history has been rewritten countless times in the last 400 years, why should today be any different. INFORMATION IS PROPOGANDA. I can twist or deny anything to spin my truth, facts mean nothing. If I wasn't there to see it, it probably didn't happen. If it happened before I was born and all the liars who were there are dead, then it probably didn't happen. My truth, My reality, My experience, My goal, My purpose, My struggle - is all I care about.

Long live Russia =] Without the Soviet Union and Stalin, Europe would be speaking German. Love how the US tries to take credit for it.

Indeed, the truth does not need a law to protect it! It is dangerous! If the truth is the result of informed opinions of civilized people nothing on our way to that truth should limit us in any way. The freedom of information and the freedom of expression are basic human needs and democratic rights. A law or system making "the truth" the pregogative of a select group is well illustrated by the actual struggle in Iran, and ultimately leads to regimes like North Korea, Zimbabwe... Do we want that?! By the way: I know of nobody who denies the huge effort by and suffering of the Russian people in WWII.

Which Western is here to criticize Stalin? Churchill had killed thousands of Indian freedom fighters during the freedom struggle of 42. France have killed 45000 Algerians in a single day. All other European DEMOCRACIES have nearly the same records in their colonies. Who are they to criticize Stalin? I am also very curious to know their opinion about Guantanamo and other torture centres run by US Govt. and its allies in diff. parts of the world. And these people criticize Stanlin for making GULAG! Ha-ha-ha

What the world needs (US definitely included) is a strong dose of tolerance. So although I disagree with the idea of creating laws which punish opinions, I say, if the Russian people want such laws, then go for it- do whatever makes you happy- you're not pushing it on us so why should we care. I also say focus on the common ground, quit dwelling on our differences- and enjoy life.

People in the West need to realize that if it weren't for the peoples of the Soviet Union, particularly Russians, all of Europe, as well as Great Britain and the USA would be speaking German today... Perhaps you should talk to more people in the states- we (or at least everyone I've ever talked to) know very well that Germany was extreemly challenging for all countries involved.. my grandfather was a US tank commander in europe, I've heard his accounts of the fight- and we know full well that although we all bled, Russia by far, bled the most. Yes, here in the US we commemorate the forces we lost and remember our victory in WW2. But if you think that we see it as our victory alone, you're simply mistaken. I've literally, never encountered a single incidence, either taught in school or in mass media where Russia's sacrifices were impuned in any way. (sure if you look hard enough, I'm sure you'll find examples where I'm wrong- but I'm speaking in the much larger sense) Whats crazy here is to get caught up questioning who deserves more credit- its petty. Personally I prefer to see it as a point in our history where we can point and say "we did a pretty dam* good thing together here... what else can we do well together in the future?"
