Pargmatic, is the way to go here, we should avoid the western bribery model, which always backfires in the end. But also we should start to develop the new notion of recognised national interests. This means leading a new capital and ownership model, which offers an equitable opportunity for developing countries, as opposed to the western estreme capitalist exploitative model. Russia should take the lead in the honest national bargain, and should work with developing nations, such that they mandatory have 51% control of businesses, as a minumum and Russian enterprise take up to the other 49%. This preserves nationhood, without central control, whilst still allowing business to thrive, based on the up to 49% remaining capital opportunity. Good society is based on family units, a good world is based on national units. A country without family units, has a society like hell on earth. A world without national units is earth in hell. Well perfoming and business orientated countries that safeguard the minority party, will always secure capital, whilst poor performing countries, who don't safeguard this interest will struggle to raise capital. We really need to start leading in economics, I worry that our leaders, have too much of a tendancy to follow rather than lead. They need to start to make the world a place for families, a place for nations and a place for business. We don't want mis-fit socialism anywhere. What we want is nations protected as nations, to enjoy their resources, whilst securing a capital environment for true business people to operate in, in a win win scenario, the countries get richer, and the providers of capital too. We don't want the current model of extreme capitalist mafias like in the west, breaking and farming nations for their net worth. Socialism is NOT the answer. National development and responsible part ownership, is the balance we need. Let's fix things the right way and ignore the clueless western politicians. In Russia we have the singular mind and strength to lead in a new direction, and develop in partnership with all the worlds countries on an equitable basis, let's use what advantage we have, and make a growing global economy for the benefit of people, countries and businesses who want to compete and strive, for the benefit of themselves. Let's do it! It will make the poor nations richer and lift their people out of poverty, they are entitled to a fair cut of their nations assets, not via tax, but via dividends as true part owner in the assets of their country. If the business is just based on natural resources, then ownership would start at 100% moving downward to a minimum of 51% based on capital needs. All simple stuff, with dignity for developing countries, a chance for them to lift their chins form the floor of poverty and stand, rather than kept kneeling and beggiing by the west. We need a new way, as I say let's do it!

I am a European American, and I think that Africa does not need Russia or anyone else for that matter. Notice that Medvedev only talked business and has no cultural ties to africa. What africa needs is a responsible, educated home grown elite, which will manage it's own affairs and conduct an independent foreign policy. This can only be done by Africans themselves, with no outside intervention. I would say Ethiopia and South africa need to step up and take the leadership over sub saharan africa, and let no one interfere with their affairs.

Yuriy - we would all love to believe that Africa, can do it on its own, and if they could be put in some sort of isolation ward, maybe they could, but how long would that take, and how much suffering along the way. To truth is that Africa is not in an isolation ward, that means that predators are already acting, to rape Africa of its wealth and leave it as blood soaked earth. Given this, there is already interference, already foreign hands in the pot. Given this, the best approach is for the international community to make the involvement in Africa, long term beneficial for Africa. That means making sure Africa keeps a large portion of its wealth and that wealth corresponds with financial rewards for all the people of Africa, within their respective countries. Africa needs to move quickly now, organic growth will not deliver on the expectations of the African people. Moving quickly requires capital and access to global markets. Africa needs to become part of the world, not distinct from it.
