Why do we not see the same pressure placed upon Israel who have an actual, and completly illegal nuclear weapons programme? Why does Israel recieve special treatment? Iran have only an alledged weapons programme - with most of the allegations coming from Israel and the US. Surely it is now time for the special tratment of one state to end, and for all states / peoples to be treated equally in the UN.

Russia is much closer to Iran than Brazil and therefore its concerns with nuclear Iran are serious than Brazil. I do not want to see nuclear Iran and the President of the Russian Federation has good reason to reject nuclear Iran as something undesirable. However, I found it strange and anomalous of his dismissive approach to the President of Brazil’s dialogue mission to Iran. Hilary Clinton, who was rebuffed when she made similar claims in Brazil[ she failed to convince Brazil to come Brazil on board of the U.S drive to isolate Iran] was very pleased with President Medvevdev’s dismissive stance to the possibility that a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue regarding Iran is possible. So, how does this squares with Russia’s claim that want to see a new global order based on peaceful dialogue and multi-polarity? Today it is China and Brazil-d not Russia- who voicing the concerns of the Global South. The President of Brazil brilliantly underscored this new fissure within BRIC countries today. Russia under Medvevdev wants to be all things to all people but Russia cannot meet the demands of U. S uni-polarity and the reality of a world that is becoming multi-polar. Of course, it can be said that Lula is playing up the voice of the Global South in Moscow while quietly cooperating with the U.S in the southern hemisphere of Latin America. But this divide and conquer driven by narrow bi-literalism serves the U.S global hegemony brilliantly. It is time Putin takes the top office in Russia.

If President Silva succedes in reaching a deal with Iran, it will propel Brazil as an undisputible world power with far reaching influence and a "multi-polar world" will become a reality. However if the negotiations fail, the US and Europe will continue their domination of global geopolitics. Remember, another round of UN sanctions will hurt Iran tremendously just like they did to North Korea last year. Somehow I wonder if Washington and London secretly want Silva to fail? Either way, it's shaping up to be a very interesting; and dare I say, history making summit.

Dustin, It seems that Russia, or at least the President of Russia seem to want that Lula to fail in his peaceful negotiation with Iran on its nuclear research. This adds a new and strange dynamics to Iran's nuclear saga. Why the President of Russia is so aggressively against negotiated settlement to the nuclear crisis in Iran while saying nothing about nuclear Israel? Medvedev has undercut Russia position's in the ME. Somehow, I cannot see Russia has to gain from Russia's President's deliberate negative assertion that Brazilian leader will fail in his peace mission to Iran! the whole press conference was strange and it was clear the two men did not see things eye to eye on Iran nuclear crisis. Why greater good Russia may gain by falling in line with the U.S/UK consensus on Iran is not clear to me yet. Ms Clinton is pleased with Mr. Medvedev's pessimism that Iran’s nuclear crisis cannot be resolved peacefully. In otherwords, Mr. Medvedev's intervention has pleased Washington whereas Brazil has refused to purchase into the U.S/UK position in Iran's nuclear question..

What i can see(maybe wrong) is this: Russia and the rest of the world do not want to see another state more with nukes-wich is correct in many ways. So Russia did not follow USA or Europe on this but it plays along.West started this nuclear issue but it did no know that Russia think the same from beggining. Russia is key state for Iran and without them there is not posible to give any sanctions on Iran-it can not work.I will remain you that Russia many times said(PM,President and FM) and warned West about war agains Iran.Russia also build Busher nuclear plant. So far, West is happy with Russia stand and mr.Medvedev remarks with mr.L.Silva. Up to this point Russia done their part and nobody from the West can complaint about that after ! If I read right between lines president of Brasil will reach deal with Iran.I also watch mr.Ahmadenijad in UN (I hope I understand him well) when he said that Iran is ready for proposed deal...West know this fact but play dump just becouse they looking for excuse and ofcourse they did walk out.Thats why I think mr Silva is choosen to do the deal.In this case West will somehow be unhappy-it will be forced to OK,Russia did take a correct stand and Iran will not have sanctions!I believe that 30% chance is very high when mr.Medvedev said this with mr.Silva in public!. If he said the chance are very slim and without % than I will not said what I did. Anyway, the time will tell...I will add:there is not one single proof that Iran try to produce nukes. Thanke you.

It is clear what the US wants: regime change. Therefore, they do not care what Iran agrees to. It does not matter if Ahmadinejiad resigns and the most reformist of reformists takes power and mothballs the nuclear program. To the US, that will NOT be enough. Strange how right after Iran, Brazil and Turkey reached some agreement, that the US is now stepping up its sanctions nonsense. What do they really want? Coopoeration or deficance? I think the US wants defiance a lot more.
