In this war against imperialist aggression, in the liberation of Manchuria from brutal Japanese military occupation and the liberation of Europe from fascism, it was the Great Soviet Union—the people of Soviet Union and Great Russian military commanders who secured the peace for future humanity. I am not at all convinced that today’s Russian leaders will take on this moral responsibility..

PR101 Slight correction: Liberation of Eastern Europe. But the effort was truly great. And as Uncle Joe said, "it takes a brave man to be a coward in the Red Army".

GaryMax How big is Western Europe in comparison to eastern Europe? Do you know that Manchuria is three times the size of Western Europe and it was the Glorious Heroic Red Army who liberated Manchuria. Note that not only did liberate the Chinese people from Japanese occupation but after the end of WWII, the U.S in fact never brought to court the Japanese scientist who had been conducting biological warfare experiments on Chinese people in Manchuria. Now, please note, The Eastern Front in WWII was the major front and Western Front was a minor front and the U.S did not win the campaign for the liberation of Europe. The Red Army did.. This is a historical fact. Today, thanks to the internet, the fact of the great achievement in Eastern Front in WWII is receiving a fresher look as many of the historical archives are free online.. As a result, Hollywood is no longer able to framed the discourse of WWII as one of American liberation of Europe—ala saving Private Ryan! I recently saw Hollywood on the Hitler’s Bunker but the representation looks silly partly because Hollywood is at pains admit it was the Red Army that enter Hitler’s Bunker first and not the Americans..

PR101 While off-topic to this forum, you have never read, nor will you ever read, any post from me that minimizes the contributions of the Soviet Union in winning WW2 in Europe. In terms of human sacrifice, there is no question about the contributions of the Red Army. But they did get certain critical assistance. Since virtually all locomotive production was stopped( they produced only 92) to produce tanks, the US supplied 2000 diesel locomotives( + 11,000 railcars)+ 18,700 aircraft(19%of USSR military aircraft) to the USSR. This was very important from 1943 on to support the move west.

GaryMax The term "contribution" is very important but in this case it is the United States that made a valuable contribution to WWII but the Red Army won WWII. It is very hard for you to take this but there were three battlers in WWII and they all took place in the Eastern Front: The Battle of Moscow in 1941, the Battle of Stalingrad at the end of 1942 and concluded in January 1941 and the Battle of Kursk in 1943. Just google and see the distance between Berlin and Moscow, the distance between Berlin and today’s Volgograd ( and in WWII Stalingrad) and the distance between Kursk and Berlin. You can also google is also how many men, tanks, aircrafts, heavy artilleries were involved in the Eastern Front. 4/5 of Hitler's army fought and most were killed or captured in the Eastern Front. Now, in WWII, the United States lost roughly five hundred thousand men in the Western Front. Canada- had lost between five and six hundred thousand men in the Western Front in WWII but the Canadians do not claim that they have defeated the Nazi war machine.. I think it will be very difficult now that the Cold War is over and that the internet connects the World for Hollywood to recycle the propaganda that the U.S won WWII. It is correct to say that the United States significantly contributed to the WWII battle for Europe—however the Red Army won WWII battle for Europe and also the battle for China.. I do believe that fact more and more people now have access to accurate historiography of the Eastern Front is one of the main reasons why thr Western media is busy at trying to equate the Red Army and the Soviet Union with the Third Reich.. Again, you can google also that Manchuria is 3X the size of Western Europe.. The heroic feet of the Red Army has not been matched by any army since WWII.. It was the first and the last army that defeated a world class army. The role of the Red Army in WWII was not a “contribution”; it was decisive.

PR101 Do you really think your hubris is telling me something I do not know about WW2? Another fact and one more quote. Fact: By 1945 nearly two-thirds of the truck strength of the Red Army was U.S.-built. "Without American production the United Nations could never have won the war." Quote J.Stalin in 1943 at the Tehran Conference. Unlike you, Joseph Stalin knew the truth.

GaryMax . Why facts of WWII be about by “hubris”! Why cannot you stick to the facts? WWII fate was decided not in the Tehran or Yalta or in Potsdam meetings but at the gates of Moscow, in 1941, in the ruined city of Stalingrad in 1942 and the 1943 greatest tank battle in the recorded human history which took place in the tow of Kursk . Did you bother to watch the famous doc, the "Unknown War" narrated by a famous American actor, Burt Lancaster? I posted a link to doc here—watched it and deal with the facts as they were recorded by those who were there not as they came to be represented by Hollywood..One enduring myth of WWII is that Churchill and Roosevelt wanted Stalin to take Berlin. The facts are that the Americans and British did not want shed the required bleed it will take to destroyed the fortified heart of the Third Reich… The Soviet’s were out for revenge and they were willing to take the last force of the Third Reich….

GaryMax I do hope that you have respect for truth and facts-- here are references to the Soviet war production between 1941-1945..Also there also links to the facts of the Second Front, the Western Front...The WWII was a tragic event of immense proportion. The Russia and the Soviet people made up of 80% of the dead and wounded and the 80% of the fighting. WWII was a tragic event brought about by racism and imperial expansion. What we need is not the suppression of the facts of the heroic deeds of the Red Army who won WWII; what we need is to remember all those who fought against fascism in WWII and admit the fact that Red Army won WWII.. I know Stalin was evil and his crimes have been used by some to lessen the heroic deeds of the Red Army.. To deny the heroic deed of the Red Army in WWII is a crime against humanity. Here are specifically selected clips from the long series the Unknown War. I have already posted one clip. However, facts will not change your mind if you'r convinced apriori that it the United States that won WWII in the struggle for the European continent..Note the Russians do not deny receiving aide from their allies but it was primarily symbolic aide in comparison to the Soviet War production. More than 80% of all dead in Europe during WWII died in the Soviet Union. Today, Europe is free because of the heroic deeds of the Red Army who won WWII. Please watch this doc To the East from the large documentary the Unknown War--- After watching it then do decide who made the weapons that won WWII for the Red Army. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu-6R61Aqiw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbIBkUxSAmA&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_2aP3CkjvU&feature=related

More FACTS from Verbände und Truppen der deutschen Wehrmacht und Waffen-SS 1939-1945 Immediately prior to the Normandy Invasion, Germany had 40% of its combat divisions on the Western Front. Germany had about 55% of its airforce deployed to the Western Front. These facts are not meant to minimize the efforts of the Red Army in WW2 in Eastern Europe.

I am from South Africa and at this time residing in Austria which was occupied by the Americans after the war. Although I have no doubt Russian soldiers played a great role in the defeat of Nazi germany and its allies in the end they became no better than the monsters they fought. Instead of freeing states they took controll of states denying people the freedom they should have had after such a bitter conflict. The Austrians tell me the Americans were good to them but go east where the soviets took controll and you hear something completely different. Even today these states are struggling to recover from the Soviet oppression which followed. Many are flooding over the borders into Europe begging to survive. The Soviet forces in the end were little better than the Nazi soldiers they fought against and where Hitler failed Stalin did not.
