Despite attempts to erase vestiges of the Soviet past, the Communist Party in Russia still has support. On the anniversary of the birth of its founder, Vladimir Lenin, RT talks to its current leader, Gennady Zyuganov.

Gennady Zyuganov is bailing out the moral collapse of Communist Party attempting to cash Russian people’s legacy on the asset side of communism. It is the same as USA is doing, to get sane cash from working Americans back to their corrupted financial system. On this way Zyuganov stays firmly the best Western ally offering Russia as the ultimate victim of his Party. The same we have seen recently in Yugoslavia: same kind of communist party has been (not “was”) the cheapest match for savage sale of Slavic people’s moral, material and biological properties.

So wrong. Christ, a carpenter, would have been a capitalist. He was simply fair and honest.

I really don't know whether Zyuganov has the answers of russia's problems in either full or adequate measure!! It is one thing to critisize and grouse and quite another to come up with the 'right' recipe!! Merely replacing 'one bad system' with another equally 'bad' system .. is.. NOT MY CUP OF TEA>>!! Even, if , lord christ ,were to come to russia , he would 'of neccessity..to deal..with ..the problems!! The problems are the SAME. The 'style ' to solve them I concede is ,is quite Original from raaj joshi email; aventinesylla@yahoo.co.in

He is insane or ridiculous. Christ is perfect and freed us from evil. Communism is evil.

Zyuganov is riht, Spartacus and Jesus Christ were the first commies ever. But this brings him in a very hard position. Sometimes, telling the truth can bring you in a very hard position, especially if you don't ALLWAYS tell the truth... Comrad Zyuganov forgot that: a. Jesus and atheism can't be put together... The USSR was not just a religion-neutral state, it's citizens were forced to atheism and I can't remember a party member being a christian. b. Jesus can't be put together with dictators that kill people, e.g. Joseph Stalin. Real communism was never been in the USSR since Lenin's death. One can agree or disagree with communism being a successfull system but USSR's failure was NOT real communism. c. CPSU directly prosecuted christians. I admit that the pro-Tsar church didn't help and has equal responsibility for what happened but a good leader ought to discern a bad clergy from the innocent followers. So, my dear comrad Zyuganov, if you want to recruit ... comrad Jesus into your party you have to dismiss comrad Stalin. You must choose between good and evil. You can't have both...

Zyuganov's interpretation of Christ is - naive - to the extreme, actually. His analysis is very patronising to the Christ character. I recall that when called to deliver a political speech to the class when I was 14 yrs.of age - and being a Student at a very rigid girls-only Convent - I chose as my theme : CHRIST WAS PROBABLY THE WORLDS FIRST REAL COMMUNIST - and developed my meaning on the fact that we had not experienced the real Spirit of Communism ANYWHERE on earth because countries had fallen into the hands of self-centred- self-promoting - dangerous and evil dictators with personality problems-who only craved power-bases from which to dominate the majority-to satisfy their own narcissistic and twisted ideas. A Swedish bishop was once confronted by a communist that stated that Jesus and Communism were the same. The bishop said no, they aren't the same. This is what he said, "The Christian says, everything that is mine is yours. The Communist says, everything that is yours is mine."

Most of the commenters before this one seem to be totally brainwashed by anti-communist propaganda and mere lies. One must read Zuganov's answers with an open mind and with at least SOME knowledge of what communist ideology is. Zuganov's statement that Christ may have been the first communist becomes absolutely true once one understands what Christ preached and what communism stands for: equality, justice, brotherhood, sharing and caring for others, creating wealth in cooperation with each other and distributing the fruits according to input and justice. What's wrong with this recipee for humankind? As Zuganov rightly emphazises, all religions consist of promoting good against evil. Don't tell me communism is evil and run away. Don't tell me they are murderers and run away. Substantiate your arguments. The Soviet Union was the greates success in human history until it was blockaded by the West and corrupted from within by the fifth column again supported by the West. Do not call liberators murderers. Yes, many innocent people were killed wrongly when the Soviet Union was awash with enemies working through its guts. Mistakes were made, for which the Communist Party apologized. But never forget, that both during WWI and WWII it was the western powers that betrayed fist Russia (WWI) and then the Soviet Union (WWII). Yet, it was the Red Army that liberated mankind form the Nazis. If anybody thinks capitalism is the answer to the present global problems, he/she is deadly wrong. Capitalism has always been and is the problem. Socialism is back on the march, as you'll see if you have the guts to read the interview again carefully and weigh every word Zuganov says with an open mind.

Armen 08 is absolutly right. I will go further. If he really existed as we were told, Jesus-Christ was the unic communist leader that mankind has known. Religions and politics are men-made tools to manipulate and lead wick humans. Supposantly, Julius Cesar (from that same period) should have said: Governing idiots is a lot easier than leading well educated peoples; because the first one do not ask questions...Nothing has changed for 2000 years. Just compare the living standard of Popes, bishops and Jesus. Try to guess how many churchs big chiefs, at their death went straight to Hell (Same for all religions and politicians). Sincerely... I am pretty much sure that Jesus was a Communist in his teachings. And there is nothing wrong to be a memmber of Communist Party led by Zyuganov. I agree with Armen 08. He makes a good statement defending Jesus, the Soviet Union and Zyuganov.
