The Parliamentary Assembly of Europe has made good steps in conflict management on ex-Soviet space, believes Konstantin Kosachev, the chairman of the State Duma International Relations Committee.

While Europe is studying how many angels can fit on a top of a needle, and other metaphysical geopolitical fine points, Euro is going down the drain, Greece in spite of the blood transfusion may not survive, and other countries in the world are taking leadership role, naimely, Brazil and Turkey. Europe can bicker with Russia on such weightly matters as to what type of brick facade was first destroyed in Tskinval, and was that due to the faulty Soviet brickmaking or Georgian munitions. Brussells beurocracy, European Parliament and other official and quazi official bodies, are in a convaluted relationship with their own national governments, and are waging proxy wars amongst themselves. No wonder China stopped attending EU summits, declaring EU not to be a partner. True. There is really no one to really negotiate with. Russia does not have this luxury. EU is on its borders, and needs to engage them collectively and individually for better or for worse. It is hard to imagine this going on for much longer without some reallignment within EU.
