President Medvedev, in an interview on Friday, provided some insight into Georgia's military offensive against South Ossetia in 2008, noting how the Georgia-Russia relationship took a turn for the worst once Tbilisi stepped up talks with Washington.

Mr. Sakashvili: Don't fight thy neighbour. The Powerful always possesses the motherly nature towards their former people. Please maintain a peace in Caucasus. Nobody will turn first, but the neighbour in the time of wake up. It seems, the current regime of Georgia needs a political change to hope a peaceful things, else it again become the playground of NATO. Russian federation must have to take action against the forces which trying to shake the peace of this beautiful region.

Given the shear size and scope of US forces in Georgia at the time, and the high level dialogue between Tblisi and Washington ... one would rightly conclude that something rotten was up.
