The UN court has ruled that Kosovo’s unilateral secession from Serbia was legal. The non-binding decision is believed to have implications for Kosovo and become a precedent for de-facto states seeking independence.

and with this judgement goes any respect I ever had for the ICJ. The entitiy referred to is still under UN administration, and will continue to be, and resolution 1244 will still legally be in place regardless of this judgement, and therefore, non-binding ruling or non-binding ruling, Kosovo's independence is illegitimante and illegal. So I take it that the court shares the same opinion on Abkhazia and South Ossetia? Will we see wider recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as a result of this judgement? One thing we certainly will see is an escalation of separatist violence around the globe. Today is a dark day for the International court of justice, it's integrity in tatters, never to be repaired.

Not surprising those making this ruling were behind the plot to divide up the former Yugoslavia, make inter ethnic tension, and then expand their own influence into the region. The politics in that region now are sickening with a lot of back stabbing. Serbia remains under Western radar to make as miniscule as possible.

Ruling by Kangaroo court set up by thugs and barbarians terrorizing the world is irrelevant in a lawless world created by Bush, Blair and that guy from Spain on some island off the African coast. Every empire in history has come and GONE, same fate awaits new Evil Empire, it is a matter of time.

And so the ICJ is shown for what it is, a puppet to US corporate interests. Expect the US government approved corridor of drugs, corruption, and human trafficking into the EU to continue from Kosovo and Albania, as it has done for some time, and their ongoing ethnic cleansing of Serbs and non Albanian to continue. A black day for the planet, and continued confirmation of US intent to destabilize Europe in any way it can, preventing a unity that would wield equal influence on the planet. For all those who write constantly of the "danger" from Russia, you're looking in the wrong direction. The real enemy gives you sweets, crippling debt, and then tramples on your rights through their proxies, and those nations too blinded to see the enemy for what it truly is. Be in no doubt, the world has changed for the worse today, and the only solution is for the EU and Russia to put aside any differences, and stand together as equals, in a unity that will provide real security, without conditions. I feel some sympathy for those US citizens who are desperate to see an end to the ever growing moral and financial corruption in their own country, by their government, as a proxy for the powerful few. Most of us are human first, regardless of nationality, fighting to evolve in peace, against the tide of financial and political mafioso style tribal bone wavers, who are determined to press us into slavery and submission, anyway they can. Any nation that now declares South Ossetia and Abkhazia as legitimate nations will get my support, and my cash for their goods when i shop. The hypocrisy in the ICJ decision is breathtaking in its scope, but not surprising at all.

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party (NATO) imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'" - George Orwell, 1984, Book 1, Chapter 3 The great Western European colonial machine rolls on: Aztecs, Incas, Native North Americans, West Africans, Palestinians & now Serbs...I suppose the fate of Serbs in Kosovo is stark; 1. Diaspora 2. herded in to small reservations/ghettos 3.death at the hands of Albanian gangsters & their NATO patrons...Can future generations of Westerners really afford the wrath of another destroyed culture?

Actually the ICJ concluded that the act of declaring independence is not violating the international law, because the international law does not deal with acts such as the declaration of independence, not taking in consideration wether such an act produces statehood. The ICJ also stated that the declaration does not violate the UNSC resolution 1244, because the independence was not declared by the provisional institutions of Kosovo which where established by the UNSC resolution 1244, but by the representives of the Albanian people who were not obligated to respect the legal system established by the UNSC resolution 1244. Therefore we cannot say that the UN Court ruled the Kosovo independence as legal, but the act of declaration as something what is not breaking the norms of international law. The question is: what weight has a declaration of independence which was declared by someone somewhere who was not obligated to respect the legal system which was in force at that moment? It is obviously that such a declaration does NOT produce statehood and that's what the ICJ missed to rule out.

People who believe that the Law deals in eternal verities are either lawyers or very very poor philosophers. So lets deal with the implications of this unbelievably short sighted decision. If the independence declaration is legal it follows that it can't be illegal for any other country to aid this independence. And consequently any province of a small state that declares independence and has big powerful friends abroad can look for foreign aid (Money, arms, soldiers, etc) perfectly legally. What the judgment has done is show that the Law ,like God, is on the side of the big battalions. Today this judgment serves the interests of the government of the USA and its European friends. Nobody can say whose interests it will serve tomorrow. The distribution of global economic power is in flux. Economic power builds the big battalions. And the sudden collapse of the legitimacy of international mechanisms (Courts, Leagues etc) founded for the honest settlement of disputes sets the battalions in motion.

If you have any problems with "Pandora's Box", you are more than welcome to spend money and time (like Serbia) and ask the ICJ for an opinion like the case of Kosovo. Kosovo wasn't violating the international law, as for the rest we don't know yet... ask!

Some 2500 years ago, in Antient Greece,Greeks sent a word to rulers of island of Melos that in human society arguments of law stand only if the power of opposing sides is equal ,and if not so, stronger one will use to the utmost its power, and weaker one will have to comply. In XXI century what has changed? The "impartial" verdict of ICJ is, beyond doubt, politically motivated. Judges of ICJ usually pass for highly moral and independent experts, but today 10 of them have shown that is not always the case. To give a blessing to such flagrant breach of Resolution 1244 of SC is appoling and outraging. This decision will change the perception on terms like sovereignty, integrity, international law. Many thanks to Russian government for supporting my country.

Just like UK, USA, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and South African citizens are being poisoned on the daily basis with FLUORIDE, (rats poison), in their drinking tap water in order to keep the masses depressed and under total control, this ruling gives legality to the Queen to extend her evil power over helpless population in Kosovo. But the pack’s main intention is Serbia and Serbian people. For centuries this evil power has been trying to subdue the Serbs but in vain. This frantic measure by their so called Hague Tribunal proves how desperate they are, because their time is almost over.

The international law was abandoned in the case of Serbia in 1999 when NATO started the war against that country, so there was really no any law left to be violated by the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo Albanians. The opinion of the ICJ continues along the same lines established by USA.There is no way that that country will ever leave its foreign military base without a fight, and Bondstil is close to future gas pipelines,to mention only one of reasons for its existence. And "great powers" never admit being wrong !!! Let's see what the debate in UN General Assembly will produce. If USA and its cabal prevails it will signal that time to disband that impotent, expensive and corrupt organization has come.Anyway, the brute power is the law,so let's accept the fact. Hitler and Musolini did have guts to leave Ligue of Nations before their agressions in the thirties of the last century, but todays "democrats" obviously lack the courage to do the same.Snakes in the tall grass !! There is one nuance missed by the above report: The Declaration of Independence was legal; the very secession was not ruled on, ie. the document and the action were,in the eyes of the court, two separate things !!

Oh, it is so much worse than that! This means there will be massive instability and very likely world war, probably nuclear war, and this is the "judgmental" decision that will never be seen as the cause because humanity will NOT survive this.

issues relating to the extent of the right of self determination and the existence of any right of "remedial secession" are beyond the scope of the question posed by the general assembly

How many people is the requirement to form a state.Seeing that nationality. is the resaon for these people .So alligence should be execepted as other countries to annex they loyalties to whomever or whichever. country they want to.I dont think the UN has the sole right to reconise or not reconise these countries. It is a pandora's box which never should have been opened.
