The United States should not bypass the UN Security Council and unilaterally sanction Iran over its nuclear program, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.
Perhaps when Russia stops sanctioning Georgia unilaterally, then we will listen to them.
The UN had better get something done. Lacking significant UN action, Israel, not the USA, will attack Iran's nuclear facility sooner or later.
America has been unilaterally sanctioning Syria and Cuba for decades, and Russia has always complained. But I think Iran is too close to home for Mr Lavrov... If Iran withdraws from the NPT, they would lose some important friends like Russia, China, Brazil and South Africa. I think Iran is doing the right thing, and by the way, they have not violated a single clause of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Even their new sites, they announced them wayyyy ahead of the required time.

Israel will not attack Iran - they will bluster, they will threaten, they will encourage the USA to shed thier blood and treasure for them, they will support proxies or 'terroists', and they may even do some sort of false flag opperation - but they will not attack Iran directly. If Iran ever directly attacked Isreal it would be the end for Iran. Likewise, if Israel ever directly attacked Iran, it would be the beginning of the end for Israel. If Iran see Israels illegal weapons programme condemmed by the UN (and placed under sanctions) they would shift significantly in how they worked with the UN and the USA in particular. International law should be applied to all nations and all peoples, there should not be any special exemptions.
Mr Lavrov Respectfully , it is common sense , fully agreed with your recent interview at Rt , if they alienate Iranians by the stupid warmongers ,bombing nuclear facilities ,they might do as you openly pointed out, and even they might start World War 3, there is a proverb saying if you push the cat against the wall , it might turn and scratch your eyes ?. But the subject that I couldn't agree , Russia should have honoured its agreement by selling air defence S3 ,it would be an preventive measure for wild and stupidity of some group as we know and also economical interest for Russia, it isn't all UN , decisive out come , we know who has pressurised whom .

I can understand the Americans' frustration: The UN has done it's normal trick of dithering and doing nothing despite growing evidence of Iran's breaches of the NPT. As Iran has now acknowledged that they have enriched uranium to a purity of 20% and intend to go further, there can be no longer be any pretence that this is for peaceful purposes - but the UN has still done nothing. What I don't understand is why Iran does not follow the example of North Korea and withdraw from the NPT. They would then no longer be in breach of any treaty as they develop nuclear weapons. Perhaps they still lack the knowledge required to go it alone and still need to procure equipment and materials from NPT signatories like Russia. It is good that the US and Russia are talking (and listening) to each other, even if they don't necessarily agree.
