There are no unmanageable issues, believes Georgia’s Mikhail Saakashvili. During his chat with Dmitry Medvedev, Saakashvili stressed that he appreciated the opportunity to discuss numerous problems between the countries.

DM: Michail Nikolozovich, I am glad we have this opportunity to meet and talk. You know yesterday I was in Germany, spoke with my German colleagues. They are somewhat concerned about Russian-Georgian relations. I personally think we are perfectly capable of solving the issues that we face today on our own, we can overcome the difficulties and build long-term relations. What do you think?

MS: I totally agree with you. I am really glad about this opportunity to come and meet with you. Glad to get to know you better. I truly hope for a long and productive co-operation as well as finding solutions to all burning issues in our relations. I think there aren’t any problems that are impossible to deal with – there are many unresolved issues, but none of them are impossible to resolve. We can sort them all out if we are willing and trying to understand each other. Russia and Georgia are close neighbours, there are historical, cultural, personal ties. The situation as we have it today is unnatural and does not benefit anybody. I think we can solve all the issues – there are some key issues, problems that have piled up – we will work on them hoping for positive results.

DM: Yes, let’s do that and we will continue our talk.
